This afternoons San Mateo County Times (CA) announced that, "...a convicted rapist and murderer with a track record of sexually assaulting women was released from a state mental hospital Friday after a judge determined he is not a sexually violent predator." "Superior Court Judge Carl Holm said he does not feel Michael Etchison, 51, ...poses a threat to society. This court found that he is not a sexually violent predator. There is no evidence presented to confirm that he has a diagnosed mental disorder.
"Etchison, formerly of Daly City, has spent most of his adult life incarcerated. As a juvenile he was convicted of raping an 18-year-old girl and then murdering her with a cleaver in Daly City in 1972.
After he was released from custody, Etchison was convicted of the sexual assault of a young woman in Belmont in 1978. In 1981 he was convicted of the sexual assault of three women in Burlingame..."
thank you judge holm for your wise and just decision. michael etchison is welcome amongst our children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, we need more murderers, rapist, and child abductors and molesters amongst us. I'm sure you're decision will prove to be justified; however, if it's not then we as the people will find you pose no threat to the prison society and you can be released into etchison's cell with him.

When he does it again, and I'm willing to bet he will, the judge ought to be prosecuted too.

As an indication of changing prison tariffs over the last forty years in England and Wales:
In 1963 there were only 6 men in the country still serving sentences who had received their original sentence more than 10 years earlier. (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/magazine/5086978.stm)
In 1992 there were 83 prison inmates in England and Wales who had received their original sentence more than 20 years earlier. Of those, 14 had received their original sentence more than 25 years earlier and 5 more than 30 years earlier. (http://www.publications.parliament.uk/p ... ens-1.html)
I'd be interested in comparative current figures if anyone can find them.

Hahahahaha!!!! :wah: Is this for real?? Violating a woman and then whacking her to death with a cleaver, only to rape and dehumanize more women and the guy gets off because he has no mental disorder?! How about he's just evil?? Does that work? Let's get this bozo judge's address and flood him with mail stating the error of his ways. As for the monster who did these crimes, hopefully someone will get him on a dark night.

Hi. I'm new here and this is my first post to this forum. I found you doing a Google search on the subject of this thread. I just learned from the Bay Area newspaper articles of 2 months ago what happened to Mike after turning himself in for the murder he committed some 34 years ago. I went to school with Mike Etchison. I knew him from about the 2nd grade until he disappeared during the fall of 1972 when we were juniors in high school. He, in fact, was my first "boyfriend" in the 4th grade and I actually associated with him subsequent to the murder...between the time he had committed it until he turned himself in. He had started walking me home from school just prior to his departure. Creepy, eh?
I was blown away to read that after committing MURDER he was released in as short an amount of time as to be able to start committing other crimes a mere 6 years later. I mean, granted, he was a juvenile when he was arrested, however murder is murder. I can't imagine how such an early release was believed to be warranted and in the best interest of society. I also find it ludicrous to equate a person who displays model behavior while incarcerated with someone who is going to be a model citizen out in society. A prison or mental hospital are secure, controlled environemnts. The doctors thought this ill advised. It's scary.
Anyway, I followed up reading the newspaper articles with a search of the Megan's Law sex offender registry. I found Mike there. Turns out he is living in the very county where I live...only 30 miles away (yet 150 miles away from where we grew up). Talk about creepier YET, eh?
