The gift of a lifetime.
The gift of a lifetime.
I understand that not everyone is able to give the people they love something they would most heartedly cherish forever. In fact, I would go as far to say that an overwhelming majority cannot...
but for the sake of curiosity,
If you were able to get anyone something that you know they would hold close to their heart forever, when - not what- would you decide to give it to them and why?
Keep in mind that this would be something that they would love dearly for the rest of their life, and could never possibly receive anything more appreciated for the rest of their life.
I would give it to my parents, because I love them very much, and I couldn't express my gratitude for giving me the life I have now...
I would give them something they most undoubtedly would love more than anything, not at Christmas, not on their Birthdays, and not on their anniversary,..but at a time when life is carrying on as normally expected, and at a time when nothing really is of importance except the thought of what they are going to have for dinner, or what time they should leave in the morning in order to make it to work on time...I would give it to them as the biggest surprise of their lifetime, and hopefully it would change their lives forever.

The gift of a lifetime.
K, it's a good question and the only answer I can give is that I can only give them my love. My love knows no bounds or measure. There is no material gift I could give them that could ever convey how much love I have for them and how much they mean to me.
I write this of my Mom and Dad. Yet it holds true for everyone I love.

I was thinking more along the lines of something materialistic...I suppose I should have clarified that...
Your answer is great, and I don't doubt for one minute that they would appreciate anything more than to receive your unconditional love,..but I was thinking more or less something that would absolutely astonish them, after they have spent their entire lives working their heart out so that they may have better schooling for you or their children...and not really emphasizing on exactly what it is, but just when you would chose to give it to them...would it be on their birthday, because you enjoy a memory etched in both of your hearts from a time you had enjoyed coincidental to such a date, or is it a time when only the two of you recognize the importance of it?
I was thinking something like a 27 million dollar payout and sharing it with them,..or a car someone has always dreamed to have...I'm sorry, when I said something they would enjoy more than anything, I didn't really mean for it to go so philosophically deep, and again I should have clarified that.

No problem K
That makes it harder though...I guess if my mom were still here, I would give her a trip to Germany so she could see where her family came from. I would pre-arm myself with as much family tree stuff (can you believe I forgot the word just now?? That G word!) as I could and that would be difficult as there's not much info on our family. I would also buy her her own personal mountain as that was a joke between us.
My dad would get a guitar session with Chet Atkins (if Chet were still alive) as he greatly admires Chet's ability and a session with a clawhammer bluegrass banjo picker as he admires the style but can't master it. I would also send him to Ireland because he's always wanted to go there.
If I could do these things, I would pick any random, ordinary day and make it special rather than choose a special day.
:)

There really, really is nothing I could put in a box, that has any big meaning for any of my loved ones. I would give my two sons all the years they lost not having a dad. I would give my mother the chance to go back and be married to someone she was in love with. Same for my dad. I would give my best friend Cathie someone great to shower all of her love on now. Id like to have tons of money to spread around to everyone. Not for material things, but because money buys free time and peace of mind... which automatically provides good health and happiness. For myself I would want my two front teeth to grow back in. They were knocked out in an accident when I was 16. I have missed them my whole life.

So you would do it out of the blue and wait to see when they noticed and how they would react?
Or perhaps just being around them when they talk about how much an anonymous person changed their life?...very interesting.

Well that's not your fault.
