I do it every year, i buy way too much food & cakes & all sorts of treats with short life span, im lucky enough to have an old folks home near that i can take it too but this year the matron said they really had been inundated with so many things that she probably couldent use them either.
So im thinking there is a family a few streets away who dont seem to be very well off & have 5 kids, should i take the goodies there? I dont want to offend these people but dont want to waste the goodies either.
I really have to get a grip on the excesses of xmas next year, is anyone else in the same predicament?

I believe integrity should be your best resort.
Take them the treats with true meaning, and give unto them as a gift from you to them...stay true to yourself, and keep in mind what your true intent is, and not what others may be lead to believe...If they cannot accept such a gift, then I'm afraid that's their fault then isn't it?
(If the treats have obviously been eaten from, then I wouldn't recommend it...in such a case, in my opinion you should take that and learn to refrain from buying so much -- I tend to over fill my plate when I eat. It's not that I am careless, but rather my eyes are bigger than my stomach :wah: )

Hi K
I just went round & said 'Hi, ive bought way too much cakes & goodies this year, could the kids maybe finish them off? The mum looked a bit stunned but the little boy went YEAH & grabbed them making the whole process a lot easier & funny
win, win situation, the best kind.

Phew, I bet you heaved a sigh of relief! I can imagine some people getting on their high horse and accusing you of thinking they're a charity case!
