What if you do not trust your doctor?

Post by Tater Tazz »

I have to go back to the surgeon this week. I really do not trust him to much, because of the stuff he put me through last year. But, this time after he did surgery, (two weeks later) HE INFORMED ME A SCREW HE PUT IN THE SPINE MOVED AND HE WANTS TO WATCH IT. I think he is trying to make up for lying last year. So, I guess my question is should I trust him? or, should I keep getting another opion? thanks tazz:D

Tater, if in doubt, toss him out! Seriously. If you feel iffy about your doctor, there is probably a good reason you have a gut instinct. I've changed doctors when I was uncomfortable too. I certainly wouldn't let this guy do any more surgery on you if if you don't feel comfortable with him. I suggest getting another or maybe several other opinions. What happened last year?? :(

If you don't trust him/her, it's time for a change. You also have the right to a second opinion. You can't be afraid to ask questions either. Ask to see the x-rays, etc. also. My husband is the type that if the doctor said to drink urine 3 times a day, he would. I'd be on the phone in a heartbeat asking why.:wah:

Hiya TSquared :)

I agree with the above posters. It's your body and your health we are talking about. Make sure you have copies of any magnetic imaging (x-rays, MRIs, CT scans) and bring them to another physician.

I think it will give you great peace of mind :-6

I did get second and third opion, no one wanted to fix this guys mistake, so I was stuck with him doing second surgery. Now, i am possible looking at third surgery, because one screw from his new surgery is loose. So, today I did something funny, I applied at his facility, I figure I am always there so why not apply. haha

Be up front with the surgeon and let him know you would like someone else to take a look.

It's not that easy with this guy. He's slammed doors in my face yelled at me and when I was in recovery room, He pulled a drama queen act. He was yelling there was no way the first surgery was that loose and then stormed out.

There must be an organization of orthopedic surgeons somewhere near you. Contact them and tell them what you've told us. Ask them for help. Good luck.

If this is typical of his behaviour then I'd question his aptitude to continue in his post.

Do you have an equivalent to out General Medical Council?

At the very least a letter to his employers documenting your problems might help.

Are you kidding us?? :-2 Run, don't walk, away from this clown! I'm serious, back surgery as you know, is a touchy procedure and you do not need some dickish hothead yelling at you and slamming doors in your face and acting like that. How can you trust his surgery if you can't trust his behavior?? You don't know what he could do while you're under. Someone will take you on. Keep hunting doctors until you find him or her!

Which is why it's a good idea to contact a professional organization of othopedic surgeons...they'll know a good one near 'Tater AND save her a lot of time/energy looking.

Get it looked at, if you've got a screw loose (!) it can suffer metal fatigue from

repeated strain, and break. Apart from immediate problems, this can lead to

problems as any new fixing will have to be re-sited. Good luck, get a second

opinion.

He is in a orthpedic group, suppose to be the best in connecticut. That's why I am having problems. I have heard talk about people calling him the golden boy of surgery. I personnally think doctors are letting him fall on his own. Even my primary care doc does not care for him. I have to go back tommorow to see what he says. I think I will kill him with kindness tommorow. ha ha hopefully the screw did not move anymore and I will not have to deal with him anymore. Thank you everyone for caring and listening to me. Tazz:D

Well I went to the doctor, waited an hour and a half to see him for only 5 miniutes. He told me the screw did not move anymore since the first time and to rest more. Keep taken meds. for the pain. I have to go back on jan. 31. Tommorow I am going to get my transcript from the hospital to see what exactly was wrong with the first surgery. I really think if there is anything on them I will have to seek legal advise. I hope i am doing the right thing. Tazz:D
