Broiling (giggle) question for ya'll

Post by valerie »

So tonight dear, dear hubby decides to help with dinner. He's turned

into a pretty good cook. We were going to have steak sammiches so

he decided to put the steaks in the oven on "Broil". Well he did his

traditional which is to leave the oven door open a couple of inches.

I did a Val glare at him, because I hate it when he does that, even with

the fan on and a window open a little, it's smelly. He said that was the

way you're supposed to do it, I said no you're not (yes you are no you're

not) > Paulie and Val having what amounts to for us as a (VERY

wimpy) argument so I asked him, where did you hear that? (Or read it,

etc.) and he said "The manual". So of course, I just had to get the oven

manual out, he looked it up and slowly CLOSED the oven door!! :yh_giggle

SHOCK HORRORS my Paulie FIBBED to me!! Then he tried to say it was

"A" manual.

He said I was gonna go upstairs and post about it and ruin his reputation

here. So I complied. :yh_giggle

Silly Paulie.

So, a Google search seems to indicate that some broilers you are supposed

to keep the door open, but the burning question of the hour for you

all is... did YOU ever hear of such a thing? Did your mother teach you that?

What? Help me here people.

No alcohol was used in the making of this post.

Val

We always had the door OPEN

whether that was right ? More habit for me, cause thats what I saw.

I don't broil too often, when I do - Open.

The instructions for my electric oven say that you must not use the grill with

the door closed. Ovens with eye-level grills don't gave a door on the grill

anyway!

It's broil here, grilling is usually something we do outside on the bbq.

Thanks for the replies, gang, Paul will love it!! :o

At least I have the satisfaction of knowing our manual says keep it

CLOSED. For our ever-so-lovely "Blanket of Flame" broiler!!

It's in your manual. Other cookers have different requirements. So, you're both

right!

Yeah but I like to spit tobaccy juice on it while it cooks to keep it moist.

My mom always left the over door cracked open when she broiled, so I did too. We now use a smaller convection oven for almost all our oven cooking...I close the door on that one, as I cannot leave it ajar.

I used to leave mine open, but since I've gotten my new stove I close the door. I have a switch where I can just turn on a light and watch how it's coming along.

But I have to wonder if the reasoning some leave it open, and others close the door has to do with whether you have a gas or electric stove.
