If you were going out with a vegetarian, would you eat meat?
Just thinking about this one, I am a meat eater, but I have gone out with some vegetarians, and so naturally you tend to eat less meat and all that as you share food, and go to vegetarian restaurants, and all of that. I have to say that any of the vegetarian girls I did go out with were not food nazis and didn't mind me being a meat-eating guy, though you could tell that the blue steaks did disturb some of them. I also found that when I was eating less meat in my diet I didn't mind at all, and I was always able to have the odd bacon sandwich if I get a craving for some proper animal flesh, but when left to my own devices I tend to eat more meat, more out of habit than anything else I would say. So, what are other people's experiences about going out with veggies, and veggies what about us meat eaters? Anyone lose a lover because of a ham roll? Its an interesting one I think.
Also where does fish fit into the whole picture? I love fish most of all I think!

If you were going out with a vegetarian, would you eat meat?
I really think if they are going out with you and you tell them you are not a vegetarian, it should not matter. I did go out with vegetarian once, and he took me to a steak house.

If you were going out with a vegetarian, would you eat meat?
I wouldn't by any stretch of the imagination, call myself a vegetarian, but I tend to use meat more as a garnish than as the main event.
An ye harm none, do what ye will....

It depends on why the person is a vegetarian, in part. If it is because "meat is murder" then I would think seeing things the same way would be rather important. I was vegan for a while but for allergy reasons. I couldn't eat at restaurants because I needed to know the complete list of ingredients including spices before I could eat anything. Cooking at home can make for a much better date anyway.

it really makes no difference to me. I can be happy chasing a nice rare steak across the plate.. or eating a killer veghead meal. I was veghead for about a year when I lived in Spain. course it was lot easier to get wicked fresh veggies and seafood so that helped alot.
But..to answer the question.. I would just ask them to respect my tastes, as I would respect theirs.

I was with Ian (veggie) nearly 5 years and found myself eating meat and fish less.
When he was here we'd have quorn in place of meat, it made more sense cooking veggie style
rather than two seperate meals.
I was on the Atkins diet for a year and he would'nt mind cooking my meat,
if i had egg and bacon for brekkie he'd have vegatarian bacon and sausage cos he found the smell of my bacon made his mouth water

I will eat what I like, when I like it. If a person's date or significant other wants to make a big deal about what the OTHER person eats, how does that set any foundation for a relationship? You can't dictate to people anything, much less what they choose to eat. If a person won't accept you for who you are, you don't want to waste your time.

I would think oral sex with a vegetarian would be the safest.

I have been a vegetarian since 1992. It was my own choice for myself. Fish used to be my favourite. However, I have not missed meat, poultry, fish, etc. since becoming a vegetarian.
I do not believe I can dictate to anyone what they should eat. Neither do I make a point of raising the matter. Although, if the subject does arise, or I am asked, I will discuss it and why I became a vegetarian. As far as I am concerned, it's up to the individual what they eat.

I would do what I normally do, I'm not a big meat eater anyway but I would eat it if I felt like it. You have to be true to yourself and the other person wouldn't be respecting you if they thought you must do it their way.

I'm not a vegan, I eat dairy products. I will not eat eggs if I believe they have been fertilised.
My principles for becoming a vegetarian are basically down to only having to kill for food and for self defence. Since there's an abundance of vegetables and fruit available, I don't have to kill for food.
In becoming a vegetarian, I have looked into nutrition a lot to make sure I'm eating ok. Fruit and vegetables are slightly harder for the body to consume than flesh. However, fruit and vegetables provide first hand rather than second hand nourishment and is purer in this respect. There is no nutritional benefit from eating meat. Since nature provides for the herbivores, there is even a source of the essential fatty acids available without having to eat fish.

Thank you everyone, this has been a most entertaining thread, it seems that everyone is pretty tolerant of the whole meat thing, and I never really thought about the oral sex issue before, but you live and learn dont you? :wah:
What I discovered from going out with veggies is that vegitarian food is actually very nice if you can cook it right and are a bit imaginative with it, and aside from the moral thing I never felt hard done by not eating meat for a while, its been interesting hearing the opinions!

I wouldn't expect to change my diet as I wouldn't expect her to change her diet. Each to their own. Have to say though, that when I was seeing a vegetarian, cooking for her was a pain in the arse.
Some of the best food I've ever had was in a Vegetarian restaurant, but for me, if God didn't want us to eat animals, he wouldn't have made them meat flavoured.

"vegetarian" or "meat eater" are opposite extremes... I do not think that
either diet in isolation is the best, but I think that it is true to say, in the
main, that too much "meat" is on the average omnivore's plate. Only a
couple of ounces daily are useful. There are also different kinds of "meat",
some of which are apparently unpalatable to some people, but yet which
contain very useful nutrients. Perhaps Ted H. will comment? Ted?
With "animal welfare", which is a Big Thing for some vegetarians, well -
where do the eggs, milk, etc., come from, and why are those animals there
in the first place? How comfortably do these animals live their lives?

Our nearest relatives (chimps/bonobos) are MOSTLY vegetarian but do eat meat on occasion. This seems sensible to me. I've been exclusively vegetarian (although never vegan) and always appreciated it when friends made sure we went to a restaurant where there were many options.
I'd never dictate what a friend could/couldn't eat, and, as B'R said...if they want to get testy about my diet, there's probably not much chance of a relationship, anyway.

I am not a veggie..but if I were dating one, I would tend to be aware of where we were going to eat to assure there was a variety of stuff on the menu he could choose from to eat..so we both would find something we enjoyed.
If you were going out with a vegetarian, would you eat meat?
I would eat whatever I wanted to. I dont think a vegeterian as sensitive as one who was opposed to leather shoes etc.... would choose to be in my company. There are those who are vegeterians because of an oulook pertaining to health, and there are those who attach religious or spiritual meaning to the lifestyle. The latter having a less live and let live attitude.

Hi, Buttercup. Good to see you too.
As far as it is humanly possible, I buy non-flesh products for clothing and footwear. The only reason I've had to break with this protocol is where I've had to buy safety shoes and boots for contracts I've been on in the past. I am thankful that I don't have to do this now.
A good question, though. I have also come across principled vegetarians that forget this aspect.
