Saudi Arabia has the largest reserves of high-quality, easily-acessible, crude oil in the World, dwarfing everyone else, its lands are utterly sacred to Muslims, and its government is a house of cards which we are desperate to keep propped up because the alternatives are (from our point of view), worse, they are Arabs and sunnis, the Iranians are Persians and Shiites, and these 2 places are the two poles of the Islamic world. Everything that is going on and has gone for the last 40 years is about three places, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Israel. The Saudis have been able (very wisely) to keep their heads down and just count their money, but everything is changing, and very rapidly, what happens next is anyones guess, but my opinion is that the words "Iran" and "war" are going to be cropping up a lot this year.
