How do you delete threads that you start? Do I ask the moderator? How long does a thread remain editable?

I believe you cannot delete a thread/thread starter, only a post in response to one.

But I think you can delete *the content* of any posting, including the initial one.

Am I right? :-3

I suppose it depends why you want one deleted.

I tried deleted the content, but there is no "edit" button to do this.

Why would you want to? Why should you be able to? You say you've been

here before. Did you want to delete threads you'd started then?
