Well it's starting to work...

Post by Sheryl »

I started taking Chantix, Wednesday, to help me quit smoking. I started out on just a single pill, then moved to two today. And I dunno if it's mental or the stuff is actually making the stogies taste nasty. I can't even smoke a whole one.

Chantix was just approved by the FDA in May of 2006. And yea your encouraged to smoke during the first week. After the first 7 days the packet sais to throw everything away.

Thanks for encouragement guys and gals! My sister kicked her 2 pack a day habit using this stuff, so I'm hoping it works for me too.

This stuff sounds great, do they prescribe an anti-depressant (like wellbutrin) with it?

They use ZIBAN here in the UK. I know 1 person that was successful.

I'm using patches and chewing gum......this is my 4th attempt to give up and it's been 11 days now.

Good luck Sheryl.....it's really hard but just getting rid of that yukky smell in the car and clothes etc is good, in fact when I went shopping yesterday I really noticed the smell where everyone was stood outside the shops smoking. Things do TASTE better too and the feeling of NOT being dependant on nicotine is a great relief.

Keep it up...there's loads of people here for support. :-4

And don't forget the money you'll save.....you'll be able to treat yourself

I posted a link about the drug, but not sure if it's available in your neighborhood yet.

My neighborhood is a little green Island in the North Atlantic, I will await developments with great interest. I am trying my best with the patches, but its very difficult to stop this time.

Sending lots of support! Remember, friends....SMOKING CAUSES UGLY WRINKLES! Not to mention lung cancer, emphysema and COPD! And smelly breath! And hair! :)

It was only really hard the first two weeks for me. I felt like my blood was boiling. It gets alot easier after that and I didnt use anything, not even a patch. So you should be good. Good luck, call us for support if you need it!!!!!

Wow DG, I'm impressed, I used the patch for 4 days...I'm on day 22 today. I find the hardest is the weekends. Friday nights I want to go buy a pack to smoke for the weekend.

I'm thankful I don't smoke anymore though and cheering you all on!! I know how hard it is, and there were times I didn't think I would ever stop!:-5

Thank God I did!!:-6

Well I think I started in earnest on January 8th....

Benefits so far...

white teeth

pink tongue

no ciggy smell in car, home or on clothes

more money in pocket

saved money on air fresheners

Problems....

can't go in a shop with ciggys behind the counter (don't trust myself)

ciggy smell still on some clothes (have done a mountain of washing lately)

Things that help....

patches

chewing gum

the thought of living longer (maybe)

knowing my eldest son is proud of me

Be *very* careful with the ZIBAN!

I know a couple of people who've had bad reactions to it (heart palpitations etc) and there have been several reports of bad side effects.

I wouldn't go near it Bryn....don't worry. I'm averse to putting dodgy chemicals in my body !

Sheryl said she was using 'Chantix'.....I thought it was probably the equivalant of Ziban which is used over here.

Doesn't appear to be.

Zyban, developed by GlaxoSmithKline, is based on Bupropion Hydrochloride and is (or is related to) Wellbutrin

Chantrix, developed by Pfizer, is based on Varenicline

Well tomorrow is the day I'm supposed to throw everything out. I thought it was supposed to be today, but misread the directions. So tomorrow will be the true test. If I don't post much on here don't be worried. I tend to smoke the most when sitting in front of my puter, so I'm gonna try to just pop in real quick here and get up and go do something else.

Way to Cin and DG on quitting cold turkey. I tried that once, and with a toddler I wasn't successful. :o

Keep on Bez. I've read that it takes 48 hours for your system to totally rid itself of the Nicotine. But it takes atleast 6 weeks to break the habit. :)
