Who is more unethical Mc Donalds or your local school board?

Post by LottomagicZ4941 »

Just saw Super Size Me where a guy ate Mc Donalds for 30 days straight.

It was a bad thing. I got physically ill watching the movie.

But it isn't all Mc Donald's fault.

Schools should encourage and enable people to live a healthy life style.

My school served hamburgers almost daily. Ditto for french fries.

Should Mc Donalds offer vitamine supplements?

This poll isn't perfect. Just had to get this post out so as I could get some sleep.

Who do you think is more ethical or unethical. Mc Donalds or your local school board?

The movie stated that the Mc Play places were to hook the kids. I always thought Mc Donalds had a good intention of getting kids to be more active with them.

PS which MLM would Ted Nugent be most likely to join?

Good intention to make mony - yup.

Who is Ted Nugent?

I believe that we have the responsibilities to teach our children and take care of OUR bodies...We know that McDonalds is fattening, along with most fast food chains, and yes I know they try to offer some healthy choices.

Schools however, in our area have improved greatly over the years...I used to go have lunch with my boys and wanna barf when seeing what kids were eating. Of course I pack my boys' lunches, just cause of cost and they love it! The High Schools offer salads every day, much better than what we had in school when I was growing up...you know teradactil soup and T-Rex sandwiches!! :wah:

and Lottery...I love Ted!!

School boards are people who usually don't get paid to make decisions about schools.

When I watched the movie I had flash backs to the gicky fires they the school served us. Some of the PE teachers took issue with the food and the school board's responce was that they served what the kids would eat.

Well, it is probaby more healthy to skip a meal then to serve that gick!!! But when I posted the thread I was hoping a few people would defend their school boards. So far that has yet to happen on any fourm.

Ted Nugent is a rocker. If you like 70s era music you probably already know who he is. Call of the Wild was as good if not better then anything he did in the 70s.

Saw a film clip of one of his daughters saying that they put their foot down that he isn't permitted to date anyone younger then them. Well, I guess he is married again. He is an advid hunter. So I make jerkey direct jokes about him. He is also very anti drug and was active with the controversal D.A.R.E. Program Drug awareness r? Education I think I got all but the r right.

We get an 'event' calendar every month for the school and we also get a 'meal' calendar so that we can opt to send a lunch with our child if we don't care for what is being served on a particular day.

They don't just follow guidelines, they have the pyramid on the wall for the kids. They are currently in the midst of a six week 'healthy me' curriculum, in which they are learning about exercise and why it is good for you, why you really need to have good teeth to be healthy when you are older and what good food does for your body and energy -as well as what bad food does for it.

They learn that it is okay to have the junk food, in moderation. Mine has opted for celery and peanut butter over chips lately... I'm thinking she needs to be deprogrammed... :D

These kids are seven, in the public school system and I know that mine is determined to 'fix' me up...:wah:

LOL on the deprogrammed. Seriously you are very fortunate to have such a good school board. At the time I hated the high prices of the pop at the pop machiene. But in hindsite I'm glad it was pricy 'cuz it is healthier that I didn't buy it all the time at school.

Sounds like you have a great school board!!!!

Well after watching that movie I have not been able to eat any chicken mcnuggets.

As for school lunches and school board, I don't think school board has much say in what's served. It's regulated by the state. Generally the kids get a choice of 2 things that are being served each day. We also get a meal calander from the school. And once they get to junior high, it's open campus, which means they can walk home, to DQ, or any other place for lunch.

McDonalds doesnt have an obligation except to make as much money as they can. Thats cool with me. The school board does however have a great obligation to be responsible to the community.

Arguments like Mc Donalds doen'st have an obligation make me think terriorists can be ethical.

'Cuz if we were to start bombing Mc Ds over their fattening food they would start to lose money and have to change their ways. The movie didn't have much effect in that Mc Ds is at a 7 year stock high.

I do own stock in my mutual funds; but, it is only like 1/4 of a percent of my profolio.

I will agree with you that the school boards have a higher ethic.

It certainly is not illegal for someone or company to make a lot of money through legitimate business practices. However, whether or not it is ethical is another question.

When I see what multinationals are doing I don't think too many of them are ethical. They exploit what they can get away with.

I agree with WW. no one has ever advertised Mcdonalds has healthy and nutritious nor have they encourgaed you to make it part of your everyday diet, if you do and you encourage your children to do likewise then one, you're a sad parent and two enjoy your heart attack - just dont drain the public health system through your ignorance.

My school introduced a healthy menu back in the late 80's before this global health craze hit as they recognised back then that certain types of food affected our behaviour, concentation etc. So before 9am nothing was served but ceral, milk, fruit and cinnamon toast, lunch was a rotating menu of healthy, well balanced meals including some of the good stuff like mini pizzas, fries etc and softdrinks and the best part about it was everyone was involved in the menu selections, us our parents and the teachers it worked a treat and a lot of school around mine eventually adopted similiar practices.

In the same way as the tobbaco companies are being sued for continuing to sell and advertise cigarettes without health warnings long after they knew the dangers, surely McD are obliged to warn people of the dangers of eating their products?

IMO the point at which they go over the top is in targetting their adverts and presentation to drag in the kids.

ETA The days are long gone when the obligation to make money for your shareholders over-rides you obligation to provide a duty of care in respect to your customers' health and wellbeing.
