If the wife complains again about me not having a hobbie

Post by LottomagicZ4941 »

It had been bugging me that I couldn't think of what it was.

Well, I just remembered. If she complains again about me not having a hobbie I'm going to start home brewing beer!!!

One of my friends use to do it and he lost part of his damage deposit on his rent becasue they stained the bath tub with part of the process.

I don't think they brewed the whole thing in the tub.

So anyone here ever brew their own or know someone who did?

Hubby and his best friend did with one of those Mr. Beer brew kits. Was some of the nastiest crap I've ever tasted. :D

My Dad used to brew his own beer in the garage, it stunk the whole garage out. It was really potent stuff too, him and his mates used to disappear for a couple of hours and return to the house looking like Bambi on ice :D

I used to make wine and brew beer.

I love homemade beer. One can adjust the flavour or the alcoholic content. There are brew books with many different recipes.

The carbonation is finer, that is the bubbles are smaller, because it is carbonated naturally rather than with compressed CO2.

I used to use the canned malt but my son starts with a sack of grain and grows his own hops. His beer is excellent.

Being to strong is an issue of home brew. But with beer the max alchol content probably isn't enough to blind anyone unless they drink an unethical amount.

PBS once said that Ice Land had the highest rate of blindness from when they banned alchol and people made batches that were to strong.

Part of the reason I think I like beer so much is it reminds me of my Opa who use to always give me some.

My dad who was a tea totalar(sp?) totaller(s?p). I've only had two beers today; but; I'm such a light weight all I have to do is think about drinking and I'm half drunk.

Anway, my dad would give me to okay to take a shot with my opa. I never cared for wisky much. But my opa would usually insist that we all do one for Christmass.

Brewing it from the kits is easy and can give half decent results if you follow the distructions.

You can get far better results if you use real ingredients though. I never went as far as malting my own barley, canned malt works OK, but using decent hops can make a big difference.

Be aware though, boiling the hops will stink your house out.

You won't blind yourself with homebrew - it's either OK to drink or tastes awful.

It's the distilled stuff you've got to be careful of - if you catch the wrong fraction then you end up drinking methanol instead of ethanol and you're in big trouble.

You remembered that much????!!!!!!!!!!

Seriously though, I make home-brew and my own wine (well, some of it). It's usually pretty good but I tend to stay away from distilling (illegal doncha know).

Or that's my story.

Root beer is missing an essential ingredient - alcohol.

It's drinking distilled things that can lead to blindness (or worse) due to methyl

alcohol in the result. Hme-brewed beer, wine, etc. will at worst give you a bad

hangover. You don't have to make it too strong, though, and you don't have to

drink a gallon at a time!

Start with a brewing kit, but use natural hops, not concentrate. Don't try to

make it too strong, or copy a commercial brew (very difficult). I should start

by using bottles, too, rather than a large container, for storage.
