A Way to Improve Your Memory of the Important Things That Need to Be Done

Post by polycarp »

A good technique for maintaining a crystal-clear memory of all the important things in your life is to spend 10 minutes at the end of each day writing down anything that needs to be followed up on. Review everything that happened during the day - first from memory and then by looking at your calendar, your journal, your notes, etc. Leave the reminder list on top of your desk so you can rewrite the individual follow-up tasks in the appropriate places.
A formula for tact: "Be brief politely, be aggressive smilingly, be emphatic pleasantly, be positive diplomatically, be right graciously".

Great advice, however, remembering my day at the end of my day is not always that easy ahahaha, remembering where the journal and calendar are kept is a second challenge. Boy I need a memory transplant Poly as I am hopeless with a capital H.

You're not alone Minks. I also notice that my ability to remember things is not as sharp as it use to be, but I am fighting hard not to be too forgetful.

tangentially related, i began taking phosphatadyl serine recently, and while there's always the placebo effect to consider, i must say i do seem to be able to remember things better - in the sense that, if i was thinking of something thirty minutes ago, and forgot what it was, i'm able to 'concentrate' through the mental pathways back to the point where i was thinking about whatever it was, and thus remember it. it feels like i'm about 30% or 40% better at recall than before i started taking it. figure half that is placebo, and you're still talking perhaps a 20% improvement in memory from a supplement.

unfortunately, it is ungodly expensive, so i won't be able to justify continuing to take it. however, that will give me the opportunity to see how long the effects may last after stopping.

it's worth noting that the effects of phosphatadyl serine were first explored more than a decade ago, using PS from bovine sources. because of BSE concerns, it is no longer available from bovine sources, and is now derived from soy (ack, that also conflicts with my signature, so i can't take it!!). the effects of PS as derived from soy are not nearly as well studied as the bovine sourced PS, so some question whether it has any real efficacy at all, because the bovine form is a mix of many, many lipids, which some believe may be necessary for the PS to work. in order to counter that deficit, i've also been taking borage oil, concentrated fish oil (for EPA) and flax seed oil.

Thank you for making my compulsive list making seem okay, even for just a moment. I actually do find writing a list helps me remember and I don't even have to take the list with me. Which is good because I always forget the list at home. But I remember what was on it.

Post-its for me. Started doing that a few months back, when I realized I

put this really cool arrowhead in a REALLY safe place, and now I can't find

it. So I just write everything down as it occurs to me, stop right then and

get it on paper. It's been very, very helpful. Even keep Post-its and a pen

by the side of the bed, wake up in the middle of the night and think of

something... write it down. Also times/dates someone says something to

me so weeks or months later when they say something entirely different,

I can quote them back to themselves!!
