I was just reading my local internet news, and found this article. Just goes to show that it can happen anywhere, I guess. ( The population of Richland Center is about 7500.)
Man stabs dog to death in Richland Center
The Richland Center Police Dept. reports that a Richland Center man was arrested Wed. morning after allegedly stabbing a neighbor's dog to death. According to Chief of Police John Annear, at approx. 9:20 AM officers were dispatched to the 1200 block of North Church St. after a 911 caller reported that a neighbor had just stabbed her dog.
Upon arrival officers located a deceased five-year-old yellow Lab and a witness to the incident who described to the officers what had taken place. A short time later, officers arrested Thomas G. Thelen, 59 of Richland Center in connection with the dog's death. Thelen was taken into custody and booked with mistreating an animal causing death, a class E felony.
On Wed. afternoon officers executed a search warrant at the Thelen home in
connection with their investigation into the dog's death. Thomas Thelen appeared in Richland Center Circuit Court and was released on a $1,000 cash bail with the conditions that he not have contact with the victims or witnesses in the incident and that he not possess any firearms. The police department was assisted by the Richland County District Attorney's office.

Man Stabs Dog to Death
Everybody here knows I'm on this like white on rice.
They'll say it's just an animal and not a human being so the guy should get some wimpy fine. *I* say kill him. That dog is another of God's creatures and did nothing to be stabbed to death. What happened, she barked and woke him up? He should go to prison and suffer the same fate as the dog did. And I'm being nice here. Do we really need wackjobs like that in our society anyway?

I am with you on this one, RG. I'm sure the poor dog pooped in his yard, or chased his cat, or some other BS reason. The point is, he was angry with the ownder for not containing their animal. So he stabs the family pet to get even with its owner!?!? How can that possibly be justified in someone's mind?
I watched 2 dogs from my neighborhood (who were of wolf descent) try to kill a smaller dog in my drive a couple of weeks ago. None of them were mine, and sadly the owner of the victim, as well as one of the aggressors, chose to put his offending animal down. The other is looked on very guardedly. The point is, again, the dog owners. It won't be the offending wolf/dog that I shoot if it next attacks my dog in my drive!

So you're equating the life of a dog as equivalent to the life of a man?
His actions were totally wrong and he should go to jail but no way should the state murder a man over the death of a dog.

Perhaps you will explain your post, *particularly* the last bit. I don't suppose I would be wise to hold my breath whilst waiting, though.
WRT the Original Post - I should like to know the reason, "BS" or otherwise,
before commenting on this episode.

I certainly do think that jerk should be killed for what he did to a defenseless dog. Preferably by the dog's owner.I've already done my arguing over this animal>human issue in several other threads and everything I said there stands now just as firmly so I have nothing new to add.

Then we will have to agree to disagree.

An exageration on my part. Of course, I wouldn't shoot the owner! I would however make sure (to the best of my ability) that any and all penalties were inflicted upon this owner.
here is the address of the original posting. There is of course no reason given.

Yes, that usually works for the best, Bryn. Not that I want to argue and not that I am not willing to discuss it, it's just that there are two issues I simply cannot talk about without smoke coming out of my ears and that's one of them.
Other passionate topics I can handle. Besides I'm fond of you and wouldn't want to get in a match with you.
That's kind of a poor writeup if they couldn't state the incident!
