What is that bloody noise?

Anyway i had one on wednesday and went for the results yesterday, deterioration in no's 3, 6 and 7 vertebrae. Although my specialist is the most senior at the hospital he is a good lad and gives it you straight. I enquired what the cause may be and he replied "because you are an old git", my how we laughed. Anyway turns out that a few too many hard landings in my youth plus a few years carrying steel up and down steps have affected my spine.

No real treatment and he reckons I wont be bent double until I am 106 so that is OK.

So combine this with arthritis in both shoulders and the fact I am here at all is a minor miracle

God age is a terrible thing, I think I need some sun on these old bones, now let me think errr, Florida maybe!!!

As you get older, every day when you get up "something new" seems to hurt!!!

Sometimes more than others. It's no fun getting old, but it's not so bad when you consider the alternative!!! ("Florida" will soothe your bones & also heart!!!)

Its a bad sign when your only 34 and have arthritis in your knees and shoulders! Too much lifting in my line of work....or should I say incorrectly lifting. Heating pads are my best friend somedays.

I used to be sent by my neurologist to have a 6-monthly MRI scan to chart the progression of my MS condition. I hated being in that tunnel with all the noise and longed for the day when quieter machines became available.

Success! - at my last visit to the MRI center I was inserted into the new ultra quiet model and had soothing classical music played. I almost fell asleep! I actually enjoyed the experience and was looking forward to my next visit when - WHAM! - I was rushed off the the ER one Friday night with 3rd degree heart block. The result of that was that I had a pacemaker fitted. I was given a list of "do's and dont's" for those fitted with a pacemaker and one of the "dont's" is to go anywhere near an MRI scanner!. So the advent of the silent model came too late for me.

I've had MRI's done on both knees and a shoulder. Luckily, I didn't have to be put in all the way but I remember wondering why all the noise. I could see myself freaking out really easy in one of those if put in all the way.

You can mess with the medics someday if you ever need them (hopefully you won't). Those pacemakers give your EKG a really weird reading...unless they know you have a pacemaker(if it paces all the time that is, some are demand only and kick in only when your heart rate needs it)..... I've been stumped a many of times because at first glance, the EKG showed some funky stuff that caused me to think, "oh sh*t", I don't remember this in the books. After awhile, my first question was, "do you have a pacemaker?", which usually ceased the panic. I always wondered if they don't tell me they have a pacemaker to begin with because they wanna see my expression. A couple of elderly patients, who weren't terribly distressed, have actually told me this.



However, if you need a paramedic, your probably not in the joking mood but thought this was kinda funny so shared.

My sister-in-law has had MS for over 18 years. What do you take for it? She does rather well and the progression of the MS has been slow.

Peg - I have the 'primary progressive' type of MS rather than the more common 'relapsing-remitting' type.

Most drugs available at present seem to address the more common form and are designed to reduce the severity of the relapses.

So far I haven't found one which significantly helps my type although research and development by several drug companies hold out some hope that one may be available in the future.

Glad to hear that your sister-in-law has slow progression. Perhaps she also has the 'progressive' type?

magnetic resonance imaging Those are the sound of the magnets resonating ... thus MRI..

I know a bit about neck injuries.. I broke mine.. I'm semi fused at C-4and 5 ,and a cadaver bone graft ant C-6-7... Sports, and a car accident is what sent my neck over the top, then one day I put my niece on my shoulders and BAM fell to the ground..I couldn't move my upper body.. Amen for my surgeon or I would have been like Christopher Reeves.

Be kind to your neck.. I live on a heating pad.. when at home.. Drugs help but I try and stay away from them.. :-2

It's the damn arthritis that set in that is more painful than anything.. don't let your head pitch forward, and keep your spine straight.. LC can help you there..

I have only had one MRI scan which was for my back i got half way in that tunnel and freaked out i hate being closed in. and the noise didnt help :-1

i had 4 MRIs last weekend. thank Christ Bothwell tracked me down. i am a big tough cop and i was crying! i cannot take it, it's a coffin.

Well LC were even on the MRI scans, I have had 4 as well.. Also had CAT scan, Pet Scan, Nuclear Scan with dye not fun.. 4 spinal tapes, electrodes attached to every flippin part of my body..

But none of them compared to the pain I endured having a Colonoscopy,not one of those nice ones KATIE COURIC got.. No this is a bent sigmoid camera placed up your backside, with now medication of any kind.. WERE TALKING A BIG ROUND THING.. NOT A TINY LITTLE FIBER OPTIC THREAD.. I NEARLY KILLED THE NURSE, AND THE DOCTOR BOTH.. I have had dye injected in my spine, and spun around on a table, till I felt like I was on fire.. That was nothing compared to Colonoscopy.... I know TMI..!!

Had all your list except the table spin, MRI's, I'll see your 4, and raise you by 7. After #11, i refused any more. The last 6, i paid the diff for an "open" machine, only marginally better. Because it's my lower back, i get full insertion, even with valuim, i become so claustrophobic, and sweat so much, they had to change the sheet and pad each set. Then there's the EEG, EGG, and for a person who cannot stand without support, an upper and lower GI, on a freezing cold table is a special joy.

BTW: LC,i thought the Brits were known for stiff spines, which bone exactly, will be your responsiility, have you received training?, and are you certified for that responsibility?

i had a flexable stigmoidocopy last month it was horrible and v painful :-1 i cried cos they would not sedate me,
