More Unusual Rainbows

Post by chocoholic »

After finding the upside-down rainbow yesterday, I had a look to see what other strange versions I could find on the net, some of these are really stange and beautiful.

I especially like the first 2 and the middle one in the bottom row (which is an "ice" rainbow)

The third one in the top row looks lik a "sun dog", a weather phenomenon that is very similar to a rainbow.

Sun dogs are ice crystals in the upper atmosphere that reflect sunlight, much like a disco mirror ball. They create a strangely beautiful illusion of a smaller companion sun.

I usually see them a couple times a year .

The first photo, though beautiful, looks like it was shot through a polarised filter. I don't think it would have looked quite so vivid with the naked eye .
