I think it's great that you are working on learning bluegrass! I admire anyone who can play, very very much.

Hey Red, The movie 'Brother where art though' (think its called that, one with George Clooney) The Soggy Bottom Boys- are they Bluegrass? I loved that so much Jim brought me the CD.

Yes they are and that song "Man of Constant Sorrow" is traditional and has been done by many, even women. If you liked the "O Brother Where Art Thou" album, then may I suggest the women's version "O Sister" and "O Sister 2." All women, all good stuff.

Maybe you'd post a sound clip sometime and let us hear how you're doing? That would be cool.

As it turns out my friends and I decided to go to the festival tomorrow. We've already missed too much of it today. Tomorrow is Gospel Day which means they'll be heavy on the religious tunes. Having never been on Gospel day before I'm looking forward to it. Bluegrass gospel is about the only way I'll listen to religious music though.

It should be some good stuff.

My hubby is a *major* bluegrass fan! He tries to make it out to Colorado for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival most years in June -- he has a buddy out there who reviews the Festival for the Rocky Mountain Post and they both get backstage passes for the whole thing

I have talked with the wife recenyly about taking a trip out to the states next year solely to take in a bluegrass festival, we reckon you must have them. You folks should be able to tell me the best time and place to go.

Well there are a lot of good ones I'm sure but if I had a choice, I'd go to the one in Telluride, Colorado just because it's *the* place to go. It's like the Grand Ol' Opry is to Nashville.

There are some bluegrass hub websites that may be helpful. Let me look some up for you.

Westfield is not very far from me -- but you've gotta love cold weather to come to Massachusetts. The beautiful thing about our state is that we truly get all four seasons: summer, fall, winter and spring. I love three of the four seasons, so 75% isn't so bad :rolleyes:

The Telluride Bluegrass Festival is in the mountains of Colorado. It's breathtaking. At night, you can see mountain goats way up on the peaks, and their silhouette against the moon is just beautiful.

Some of the performers there are usually The Sam Bush Band, Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Tony Rice (my hubby's favorite), Mike Marshall, Allision Kraus and Union Station, Tim O'Brien, John Cowan, the Del McCroury Band and plenty more.

Try doing a Google search on "Telluride Bluegrass Festival 2007" and you'll get some excellent info on it. Let me know what you think! :-6
