What Would You Put In Your Secret Box?
Anyone seen the commercial of a young boy crawling under his bed to pull out his secret box? I had one of these as a kid. I kept my "treasure" there.
What did you keep in your secret box?
What would you put in your secret box today?

When I was a little girl I kept this love note to a boy in my class...you know the kind...
I like you. Do you like me? Check yes or no.
I never gave it to him. I was too chicken. I kept it in my secret box...just in case I ever felt brave enough.
In my adult secret box I would put love letters from hub (been a while since I got one of those).
I would also put in my favorite Valentine. I just got it this year. It was from this little boy. He wrote...
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
I love you
And you love me too!!!
That little boy was abused very badly...he recently went into foster care. I think I will always have that Valentine.

I hope the little boy will be ok.
My past secret box held all my diary's. Now all pack away someplace
Current secret box, hmmmm if I had one, I would put in letters of love to my girls. A note on how the divorce all came about and an explanation stating how I do not and will not love their father again and how well I managed and some encouraging notes for them for their future and wishes that they see marriage as a positive thing as well.
I would also put in a photo of their father one for each child especially for oldest daughter. I think it important she forgives one day.
And lastly a list of all the people I thought were important in their lives and tell them to always remember them despite what as passed.

I actually still have a secret box in my dresser. Ok... so that's not such a secret hiding place. Here's what's in it:
1. My 2nd Lieutenant's bars from the Air Force. (My first Lt's bars are on my uniform in the closet.)
2. My Father's Distinguished Flying Cross.
3. Three nazi patches my father brought back from WWII.
4. My own patch from the 8th Fighter Training Squadron, class of 85-01 Second to none!
5. A sterling silver bracelet with the engraving, "I'll love you forever..Carolynn" my first girlfriend in high school.
6. A sticker from the Desert Storm war.
7. My lifeguard's whistle.
8. My harmonica.
9. An original Gin Blossoms sticker, the first we made as a band.
10. A guitar pick, my favorite yellow one, worn down to a nub.
11. A solid glass paperweight with the engraving "Consolidated Ice Company, Pittsburg 1900" my last momento of my grandmother.
12. My original Social Security card, signed in green magic marker (I got it in the 6th grade)
13. My first driver's license.
14. a picture of my father standing in front of his P-47.
15. My son's first report card (at least the first I ever got, he was 12 when i married his mother.)
16. an interesting rock.

I love that we have these treasures in a specific spot. Interesting.

Koan...when you were writing about Enya...I was thinking of the singer...until I got to the part where you were talking about keeping the teeth.

My secret box would hold all my journals (it would have to be a big box!) I always want to remember memories later in life so I can tell stories to my kids. So, just in case I become more scatter brained than I already am, I tend to write a lot down, so I always have an interesting read later on.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

I do have a few things from my son when he was small hidden away but to be honest I have always beleived the heart was the only place to keep your momentos. (sickening ain't it)
They mean nothing to anyone but me so when I leave this world I'm taking them with me.
So I have no hardcopy momentos.

I still like to take things out and look at them...I like to feel my treastures too. Sometimes the mind doesn't always remember everything perfectly.

So true. and there are times when I wish I still had this or that. Like I built a bike when I as young, before it was the thing to do, and I have no pictures of it.
Of course it does look a lot better in my memory than it probably did in real life. :wah:

Actually our Daughter has a secret box for our Grandson who is currently 1-1/2 years old. She asked myself & my Wife to write him a secret "sealed" letter telling him of our observations & feelings of his first year of life, that he will open on his "18"th birthday!
It did not seem like much at the time, until we began writing that letter. As we realized that one or both of us may not be here when he turns 18 & opens that letter. So it became a very emotinal letter for both of us, I know as it brought a tear to my eyes writing it! Included in that sealed letter were a few pictures of me pushing my Grandson in his carriage, & at the beach, & at his mom's house. My letter tells him how his mother almost died during his birth, she was so bad she was hospitalized 12 days, it was touch & go. Thus telling him why he has no brothers or sisters. I can't continue to go on now, or a tear will begin to develop again.
