Childcare costs, are they affordable?

Post by cars »

As an observation in talking with some young parents, it seems childcare costs these days for most parents may be the second highest expense per month next to their mortgage, if it's not already equivalent.

It has to be difficult at best, for them to be able to afford the high childcare costs. How ever do they manage? :wah:

I know a lot of mums who say they cant afford not to work, well it amazes me how they can afford to go back to work, in some cases they actually only end up working to pay for childcare and not actually making much more

Elder care cost or private nursing is even more. The Eldercare facilities for daytime care start at $350/week. Of course, this is not covered by insurance.

Very difficult although my mum is a childminder and parents can claim 70%, may be more now, towards their childcare costs.

Why have children then just pawn them out all day for some one else to care for. Have kids, them bring em up your self, surely that is the reason you have them in the first place. Kids need their parents, not a hired hand.

Just ignore me tonight.

I hadn't read that, well said. I think kids need to be at home for at least the first 5 years of their life. I'd never send mine to a childminder. That's why my mum started it when my brother was born. I had started school (5 years between us), my sister was in nursery, (2 years younger than me) so my brother was at home on his own with my mum while my dad was at work. She started childminding so my brother had others to play with and has done it now for 27 years. She just looks after kids before and after school now though.

I was with my son too. Was with his dad for 7 years and he was planned but when Ryan was born, he couldn't handle the extra responsibility of me not being able to work and left. Crap happens. :(

What extra responsibilty? Taking care of his household?

That should be his SOLE responsibility.

Aww bless. He never ever did that, I supported him for the first 6 odd years, he never had a job, too busy fishing all the time. Never helped around the house either, my own stupid fault I guess for putting up with it. I did leave him for a few months once for beating me, moved from the coast back to London. He never did it again when we got back together, some guys can change that way. He couldn't handle having to work with overtime though to pay the extra rent.

He did a few times, that's why I moved and left him. Glad I took him back though otherwise I wouldn't never have my son now. He got help, got himself put away and counselled so that's something. Most men or women I bet don't get help and stop it.

No it's fine don't worry. It was a very long time ago, my son is 7 now and it stopped about 10 years ago. :) He never got to break me but I broke his nose. lol
