No...the past will always be a part of you. Canaan is right...you just have to own it.

The thing to remember the most is that if you had trouble in the past, don't regret....

You can't live your life in regret, or as my mother used to say, "I never look back, I'm not going that way."

I don't think you can escape your past. But you can take what you've learned from your past and make your present and future much more meaningful.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

I agree with devist8, but I don't believe we learn and then change, I believe we change, and then see our past actions in an entirely new light.

Usually your friends from the old life don't accept the new you- they want to typecast and pidgeonhole you into the person you were before. If you spend any time with them, you go back to acting and relating as you did then.

Your family will usually accept the new you if it's real, but if they are part of the problem you are trying to escape you're better living very far from them and seeing them rarely, and under controlled circumstances.

The past resides in our head (brain), and until we can deal with that, you never escape your past.

What a great question. I think if the goal is 'escape' then, no. If the goal is to move beyond, yes.

You can start new...but the past travels with you. If your running from it, or havent come to comfortable terms with it, it will torment you, and your fresh start will not be fresh for long. It will be miserable.

you cannot escape if you have a history of stealing, a sexual predator or an abusive person. how can one start anew with these examples of un-fit behavior? first impressions don't mean anything, you get to know a person as time goes on. simple conversation to a screen cannot be graded? look what happened to K & K? wasn't ken a nice guy, as was assumed? oh well, perfect example of what people need to hear to feel good. hiya, how are ya, and i agree with you, duh, people with tendencies to follow cannot escape their own need to attach themselves to where the action is. and how do we know who is on the key-board from Montana, and don't send a picture of your neighbor.
