Stupid Little Things

Post by koan »

You know how sometimes, in a household, there is something that happens all the time that can drive you insane and it is a stupid little thing?

spot and I currently both smoke and, as often happens, we tend to smoke at the same time. We currently sit and smoke out the windows. Our windows are a set of three; A large one in the centre, and a narrow one on either side. Here's the problem. When I open my window the smoke drifts out and it is pleasant. When John opens his window, the air pulls all his smoke OUT his window and causes a massive backrush of air IN through mine.

So every time I sit to have a cigarette, I start out in the lazy, thoughtful way that cigarettes are intended to be had, watching the curl of the smoke drift up from the heater and out the window. Within one minute, spot opens his window and I eat air. My hat blows off my head and the wind blows all the ashes in my face.

I'm not used to having a door leading to the livingroom. John (obsessively) likes the door to be closed. I don't. I have reasons (okay- we both have reasons)

Quite often I'm carrying something when I go from the kitchen to the living/diningroom. If the door is closed I have problems getting in with my hands full.

John wants it closed because there is a "through draft" that takes the heated air out the windows. Even though the windows are only open when we smoke... as previously discussed.

I want input. Who's reason is better? Should the door be open or closed?

Window opened = door closed

Door opened = window closed. :D

The draft from the window could cause the door to slam and china/ glass to jump off shelves and smash! Grrr!

Either learn to open the door with your elbow or kick the closed door hard so Spot knows to be a gentleman and open it for you!

(Get him trained hunny! :wah: )

The only doors I have closed are the bedrooms. I don't smoke anymore but nevertheless, the bathroom is usually open and the kitchen and living room always are.

What about the toothpaste cap?

How do you feel when you see the tube with no cap on it?

Another one:

I put water in the coffeemaker from a measuring cup because the residue in the carafe clogs the pump in the machine. Every time I see it filled from the carafe I think "There goes another week off the life of the machine."
