Silicon found in unleaded petrol

Post by abbey »

Last night Morrisons stopped selling unleaded at 41 sites in the South East after up to 400,000 drivers suffered car trouble. :driving:

Who ends up being the "they" that pay any compensation will be an interesting detail. It's definitely not the stores which introduced the contaminant, it's not the tanker companies, it happened at least as far back as the Royal Vopak tank terminal. I hope whoever ordered the diesel additive put into the wrong storage tank gets interviewed by young Paxman, a bit of sarcastic humiliation's due.

The car repair cost is minimal compared to the cost of disruption to all the car drivers, and nobody's going to get reimbursed for that even if they do still have proof of purchase.

I expect it'll be us the motorist that ends up footing the bill, petrol prices will surely rise because of it.

The amount's a drop in the ocean, Abbey. If every driver had to get a replacement part and have it fitted (and it's more likely to be one in ten) it would still only cost £100 million at the absolute most. That's petty cash for the fuel industry as a whole. Besides, I bet it's covered at Lloyd's.
