Teaching How to Make Websites

Post by cinamin »

Last night I was teaching my friend's 9 year old son how to design a website in Geocities in HTML. And he was a fast learner. I was so impressed. The actual content of his site was about a pigeon who flew around pooping on people's heads. He actually wrote that on the home page. It was so cute. And we found pictures and stuff. And he used this site to copy and paste bouncing cursor balls.http://www.dynamicdrive.com/.

Next time I see him I'll teach him to place a counter and a guestbook in it. So then you can all sign the guestbook and he'll like that. Anway, it was fun.

Good for you two!

Dynamic has some great stuff for sites. I use them quite often.

You can also google for java dcripts and find lots of neat web effects.

I wanna see the site he made! :D

I fogot the usernam he chose. But next time I see him, I'll get it. It's something ling Mandoglover. So maybe I'll have to ask him when he is here again. I'm sure he is dying to get back at his site. And his mother just told me he cannot be on the pc at home except Wednesdays. I guess he has a pc curfew.

i went there but only the yahoo home page came up

I can't remember what he named it. But it's like that. Mandogluver or something. But he did a lot of work on it in just 2 hours he copied and pasted a curser with a bouncing ball and wrote code for his menu and home page and index page. I just told him what to type and he typed it. Every time I looked away to do something he said "why are you doing that?" He wanted me to watch everything. And he found the pictures and background himself. So he has a huge pigeon on his home page and a castle. And then in the menu he wrote the tags and everything. It was cool.

Kids do learn quick. When I was new to computers, my niece, who was about 8 or 9 was showing me how to look up stuff on the internet. THEN I could not even figure out how to shut down the computer (What do you mean you click on the start button?) and she had to do it for me. She did have a good laugh over having to teach a grown up how to do something.

I took a basic HTML class when I first began college. And I went from there. And it's fun.
