I was part of a forum that went TU, because of fighting between some of the principal players, big egos, pedants galore, but mainly nice! When that was closed, a spin off forum was created, which took about a quarter of the members with it. Trouble was I always felt the place was a little Cliquey(sp?)and slightly patronising, to views that came from outside the core group. Basically there was an Alpha male type, and a score or so of sycophants left, when I baled out! The first place I googled for a friendly forum, was here! I don't post a great deal, because rather stupidly, I feel a bit shy sometimes, which is complete bollix cos IRL I'm the least shy person ever!.....How mad is that!... :D

That's a good question Pinky!

I didnt find FG!

I think someone in my family or a friend may have come across it before I did. I was looking at my book marked websites and I saw it there. I checked it out and liked what I saw.

So I joined. :D

Been back everday since!:)

Never did find out who bookmarked it though!
The poolhall's a great equalizer. In the poolhall, nobody cares how old you are, how young you are, what color your skin is or how much money you've got in your pocket... It's about how you move. I remember this kid once who could move around a pool table like nobody had ever seen. Hour after hour, rack after rack, his shots just went in. The cue was part of his arm and the balls had eyes. And the thing that made him so good was... He thought he could never miss. I know, 'cause that kid was me.

I guy from England who goes by the username Explorer the Eighth. First I wasn't too sure about being here. But then saw that there were a lot of really good people and support. And funny stuff too. But I don't think that Explorer comes here very often.

I found out about FG from Nats (Londonfan Of MJ)
"Why not just tell people I'm an alien from Mars. Tell them I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight. They'll believe anything you say, because you're a reporter. But if I, Michael Jackson, were to say, 'I'm an alien from Mars and I eat live chickens and do a voodoo dance at midnight', people would say, 'Oh, man, that Michael Jackson is nuts. He's cracked up. You can't believe a damn word that comes out of his mouth.' " Michael Jackson

I Mentioned this before, but am replying again as it is a good question.

Actually my wife found this place for me, since she was trying to help me, & didn't know quite how. (As she was lucky enough to not to have to work) She went on line looking for help/answers and found FG. (Thank God she did!)

I was going through a very tough time prior to taking my early retirement! I was so very scared & also worried about leaving my job. (Pulling the Plug on yourself is really a very difficult thing to do, when the time actually comes.) Because foolishly I thought my job was who I was. (Not)

As my job was all I knew for 40+ years!!

So I signed up here, looking for a "Support Group" for retirees. As it turned out, at the time there were none. However, the nice people on here told me of their relatives & friends that retired, & how they handled & coped with it.

They answered many of the troublesome questions & worries I had. Confirming what I knew was so, but kinda I just needed to hear it about people that actually successfully went through it. And over time, FG "itself" turned out to be my "support group"! Today, I'm happy to say, I am very well adjusted, very happy, very content, & very secure!

And "early retirement" is just great!! :) (Ain't Life Grand!)

A website about my local town has a 'discussion' section that is actually a gossip, slander and character assination area, I was reading that one day, getting annoyed and someone mentioned that he belongs to properly moderated forums so I thought 'That sounds better' - went to google, found this place on the first go!

Love it and staying put! Sorry!!!:wah:

I sort of found it by accident, I'd had a major spat (again) at the bike forum, and was looking for somewhere else to go for a little while. This came up on google and I signed up. People were so friendly and such a laugh that I found myself logging on here first!

It's a long story..

When I was off work from a back injury, a friend of mine told me that she went to a few forums for years and it completely changed her life. I found FG on a google search. I wrote a few things and people seemed nice enough, if not that responsive at first, but I got a little more confident posting and then, one magical day, I got a PM from one of the original members telling me he enjoyed reading my posts. I was dumbfounded. Elated. I couldn't believe anyone was actually reading what I said and caring. I started writing a little more.

When I had a more serious back injury a few months later I ended up stuck in bed for over a month. FG became my only form of "living" for awhile.

I took a break because, like with many relationships, sometimes the only way to fix it is to walk away for a bit. It still amazes me when I hear people tell me who they think I am. There is a very surreal form of existence in cyber world. The impressions people have of me range from practical angel to devil's sidekick. :wah: I figure I fall somewhere in between.

In the end I tell people the same thing about forums as my friend who got me looking. It changed my life.

I've shared before, but this time I won't get in trouble for hi-jacking the thread:D

I was laid off from my job in Sept., I got into a forum for the first time on a site that reunites people from High School, and I was disgusted by the filfth that was flying...one guy was really rude and disgusting and dominated all the threads. I decided to google to see what else is out there and I was opened to a WHOLE new world.

I remember seeing Pinky, Ziggy, Hamster, Guppy etc. and thought to myself, what a "fun" place!!

What keeps me coming back is the great friends I've paid to be my friends!!

It was a good investment:p

Ive told this story before. I thought I loathed computers. I was famous for saying " Im an artist, I have no interest in this computer age" I was talked into getting the computer for my business. When it was set up, I tentatively touched the keys that first morning. I was amazed. I think I was looking for gardening forums. Ill tell you, I never utilized the quick books program, but I definately got hooked here. It was incredible, like the whole world was at my finger tips. The first person to welcome me was Captain Buzzard. I was like, " Oh my God, hes really speaking to me from Ireland. Unbelievable. I had zippo internet etiquette. I took EVERYTHING personally. Sometimes Id log off insulted or upset. I had to learn how to conduct myself. I did with a " Little help from my friends. Mostly Abbey. I come back because I cannott get over the wonder of it. I am just beginning to adjust to the loss of people coming and going. The interaction we have with faceless members weaves an afgahn that is always ours to keep. The people are like little squares. When loved ones move on, we still have " The conversations of life " that weve shared with them. New comers make new squares, and the blanket gets larger and larger. When I am old, I will wrap it around me, remember everything, and I will laugh, and I will cry.

I was challenged to find somebody's alter ego on here but that took zero time 'cos there was no alter about it.

Then I thought I'd look around whilst I was on the site and found a post by Accountable - so I registered to throw in my two penn'orth.

The next day I had to log back in to see it the discussion had gone any further and found a few more topics to comment on.

One day I might even get around to posting an introduction thread - being my first forum I didn't know they existed.

Eventually I might get a life but there really are too many good people here to walk away.
