The Other Boelyn Girl
The Other Boelyn Girl
A couple of weeks ago, I started reading the book The Other Boelyn Girl. Huge book... I thought it would keep me amused for a couple of weeks. I could not put it down !!! I have always been fascinated with the story of Anne Boelyn. Loved the movie Anne of A Thousand Days. She was beheaded by King Henry. Charged with adultery and incest. One of the most chilling moments for me, on my trip to England, was to stand in the room where she waited for her execution. To look down into that couryard, from the very window where she stood, is something I will never, ever forget. For some reason I have always related to her, and felt a very strong connection to her. The book is about her sister, who also had two children with the king, before he became involved with Anne. Her name was Mary. One of the things about this book for me, is the way I become swept into midevil times. It is very real for me, and I feel somehow, strangely, comfortable there. The other revelation is that in this story, the charges that were brought against Anne are legitimate, something I never even considered. I always saw her as so innocent. Well, anyway, you might want to check it out. It was fascinating.

What is Hever castle? Sorry I missed that. I want to come back, so badly. I wish I could live there for a year. I will definatley look for The Queens Fool.
Ms Gregory is an incredibly talented writer. When Anne was treated to watching Georges execution, I thought I would be physically sick. The thing for me is that even though we are reading about politics from the 1500's... I relate the life lessons to today. The issue of familiarity breeding contempt. You can think that you have these strong bonds with people, when in actuality they can blow up at any moment. Or loyalties can change etc.... It seems that nothing in life is constant or reliable. No security. Like the way we can love someone for years and then loathe them and vice versa. The elements of human relationships stay the same in 1536 or 2006. And cruelty seems to be always lurking about... or the potential for it.

I am originally from New York. Came to VA 12 years ago. I did leave in 2003. Spent 2 years in Georgia. Came back to Va last year. I may be leaving again though. VA is life centered around family. Its tough to be single here. I dont recognize the name of your town. I am west of Charlottesville. Right in the valley
