do you think this guy is racist?

Post by Parker_scramble »

i want to make sure before i take this guy on. maybe im getting my emotions involved.. you be the judge.

reason why i think he's secretly racist:

1.) why does he look at just color and people on youtube...?? either ur entertaining or ur not... i dont care if ur chinese, black, white, hispanic, etc.

2.) if you look at around 1:25-1:30 when somebody calls him, he goes, "hold on, somebody is calling me.. i think its one of my black friends".... who says that? i mean i have black friends and when they call, i dont go, "oh its one of my black friends calling me.... " ... im more like, "oh its john calling me".

3.) and he's saying he's gonna subscribe to somebody cause they are black? i subscribe to them cause they are entertaining or my friend

huh??!?!

It would be real easy to call him a racist, but why do it? Why take him on?

What does it accomplish other than to acknowledge him. Give him the benefit of the doubt and forget it.

Errm, no I don't think he is racist - I just think he's very arrogant and sees himself as "voice of the people" when really he's just a boring little man who should have gone to specsavers...

Isn't it funny how people who post on youtube think they're celebrities all of a sudden?

He says right off the top that he tries to be controversial. Seems like he just thinks up stuff that might get a response. I think his comment "it's one of my black friends" was said because he was on video talking about black people and he gets across that he has black friends.

I don't follow people who post regular videos and have "subscribers" so I don't know what level of competition exists but it seems like it is just a video version of forums. He is trying to define a persona with what he uploads. If you don't like him don't subscribe. If he offends you then you'll just add to his persona if you reply.

Does everyone have to be politically correct ALL the time? This is where a lot of humor comes from, noting off-the-wall stuff or saying something that is "taboo."

If you want to take what he's saying literally (which is why most people don't get dry or sarcastic humor, 'cause they take it literally) than what he's doing is noting racial trends on YouTube. That doesn't make him racist. Sociologists make a living out of noting such trends in society.

Personally, I think he's just being off the cuff and trying to instigate people, which I think is funny. I think it's great when people say things that aren't supposed to be said in our politically correct world. I also thought it funny that while he was talking about finding black people on YouTube he purposely mentioned that "one of his black friends was calling." Come on, it's all just ridiculous humor that is supposed to make you lighten up about the whole race situation.

I think people get too offended about race. I'm half-Mexican. I've heard ALL the racist slurs and stereotypes, yet I'll laugh like hell at a Mexican joke. Because I know the difference between a true racist and play. We take ourselves SO seriously these days.

And, I think it's a matter of what your tastes in humor are. But, I definitely wouldn't "take this guy on" if I was offended by him. We're all allowed our opinions, stupid or not, and we're definitely allowed to make fun of things for the hell of it. If you need to, state your opinions and leave it at that. But really, I think it's being blown way out of proportion.

Right. It's called annoying when you don't agree with someone else's point of view or humor style. I call it opening my mind to other people's opinions... wacky or not.

Places like YouTube should be used for good, bad, indifferent, whatever. Freedom of speech, baby!! :guitarist

yes but now freedom of speech is what is debated about on youtube these days... i am a huge fan of youtube and i have been going on that site forever, but now people are starting to question about possible censorship on youtube especially with the VT shootings. should there be censorship?

should people be arrested for hate crime and spreading propaganda?

what if somebody made a video saying they wanted to kill somebody... should they be arrested or looked into?

basically how far can one push the envelope?

First of all, people already are arrested for hate crimes. Granted, the system isn't perfect, but hate crimes are illegal. As for spreading propaganda, such as the KKK, or Neo-Nazis, do, eh, that's a toughie. The question is, do you believe that the spreading of that kind of propaganda is, in itself, a hate crime. I, for one, do. But, let's take it to the realms of extreme, where everything usually goes anyway. Take, for a ridiculous example, I write a book about absolutely hating body piercings (I don't really, I have one!) and I think anyone who has them is a complete idiot. Should I be arrested for a hate crime because the people that that targets feels "hated" or somehow threatened? You're right. Where is the line, and can we, as a whole, agree on where to draw it? Like I said, a toughie, because most of it is left up to personal opinion.

Ixnay on the censorship.

I don't think hate should ever be considered a crime. It's a human emotion and should be attributed as such. Certain actions deriving from it can and may be considered crimes. But calling something a "hate crime," to this girl, is just more PC babble. I think it's flat out wrong.

Incitement to commit a hate crime is, in itself, a crime and quite rightly so.

As I've said before, if a person encourages and persuades another person to perform a criminal act then that person is also guilty of the act committed.

English law carries this one stage further and classes the attempt to persuade as a criminal act in itself.

Have a pop at you? This is a forum for debating or discussing whatever subject comes up. Debating/discussing usually includes expressing different opinions. If you consider that a "pop at you," perhaps this isn't the site for you. Debating should never be taken personally. It's simply a means of learning about, and disagreeing with at times, other ways of thinking.

No, I don't think the emotion hate should ever be considered a crime, either. We all feel hate. But I believe organizations like the KKK have already shown that they are willing to act on that hate, not simply express it.
