Sob's right.

I don't know about where you live but Rott's have a bad rep over here and the tiniest nip from one will find you in court with all kinds of people saying it's a dangerous dog.

No dogs are dangerous, just the owners.

Practice your mean face in a mirror! Like this. . . . :sneaky:

I personally think a 3 bed flat no matter how big, is too small for a rotweiller.

Do you have a garden?

Make sure the dog barks a lot and you should reduce your chances of a stranger barging in on ya... :D

Rottweilers are wonderful dogs and can live quite comfortably in a three bedroom flat, if exercised properly.

Having said that - you need to do your research. And when you think you are done - do some more. You need to make sure that you get one from an ETHICAL breeder so that you KNOW the dog has a steady temperment and has minimal chances of developing genetic issues.

If you are serious about a rottweiler - pm me and I can give you some places to go to for research and such.

Because of the bad reputation of the breed - this is something you need to think about and take very seriously. And if you are getting one for protection - size alone should help you but don't count on the dog to attack anyone that looks at you wrong. If you want protection - get pepper spray or get a gun.

Don't get a dog that big unless you can actually exercise it properly. They become destructive if bored-chew furniture etc. pups are a lot of work so unless you have the time or your mother is prepared to do it for you be careful what you get. A badly trained Rottweiler is dangerous-it's about the only breed I would worry about if one attacked me ten stone with teeth is not funny.

Have a look at the dog's trust

http://www.dogstrust.org.uk/

There's one in Glasgow you might get something suitable there. an older house trained already for instance. Lots of bogger dogs get handed in because the owners didn't realise how much work is involved.

On the other hand Bellahouston has a really good Judo club, knowing you can flatten the wee nyaff threatening you does wonders for your self confidence which funnily enough also tends to mean you get picked on less as well.

Please don't buy a Rottie if all you want it for is protection - that is unfair on the dog and only contributes to giving them a bad name . In my opinion Rotts are wonderful dogs (i've had two, a boy and a girl ) and it's the only dog i would ever really have . Space is not a problem. Exercise wise - they actually only need about 20 minutes twice a day - what you have to remember is you could potentially have between 10 /13 stone on the end of a lead and you have to be able to control that dog . I have found Rotts to be loyal and loving and absolutely wonderful . I've had them around kids and other animals and never had a problem , what you will find is other people have problems with them and with Rottie owners . Have you ever owned a large breed, can you afford the vets bill and are you able to give one the home it deserves .
Can go from 0 - to bitch in 3.0 seconds .:D

Smile people :yh_bigsmi

yep, this bitch bites back .;)

Just remember if you do buy a dog it is not just for Christmas....If you cook it right it will last until the New Year , A Rottweiler will last until Easter but you will have to smoke it :lips:
