tis a natural phase as far as I can see. I recall way back when, being totally facinated with the Manson Murders, and Charles Manson and all his followers. I think it is human nature and I know a load of teens go through this phase. Actually I know loads of adults who crave that style of reading.

I've read all Colin Wilson's books on mass murders when I was a ripe 19-year old.

I used to read everything I could and watch all there was on serial killers. Not anything like a fascination with them or anything like that....just interested in why they did what they did, how they can look so normal and do such weird stuff. Now I'm home too much by myself and I get freaked out too easy, so don't watch or read about them like i used to.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy
Am i twisted???
I shouldn't post here, because it will just give Anastrophe more ammo to use against me in the ICP thread, but....
I had a morbid fascination with Hitler as a youth. (I guess all kids are drawn to the dark side at some time or another.) I certainly didn't turn into a racist, far from it, as you, yourself, Skittles, well know. But I was entraced by his charisma. I mean, he turned a technologically proficient, deeply religious, ancient people in to total animals in a single generation. His combination of charisma, fiery oration, hate and violence captivated the German people like a streetlamp captures a moth. I was caught, temporarily, in that dark-light too.
So no, Skittles, it's perfectly normal to be interested in the Dark Side. just don't become obessed with it too much. ( I finally realized what a bad person Hitler was when I took a class on The Holocaust.)
Maturity will cure you of this interest, in the meantime don't worry about it.

Wonder when I'll reach maturity then!
An interest in serial killers doesn't make you a serial killer no more than an interest in rocks makes you a rock.
Wonder when I'll reach maturity then!

count me in. i watch every one of the inside scoop type shows on these guys. they suck me in every dang time!
Am i twisted???
I don't think it's any different than being fascinated by the Titanic, World War II, or slowing down to see an accident. We all do it at some time. And if it turns out not to be a "phase" (I always hated that) then you are still no different than most. They just call their fascination a "hobby" after so many years.

Skittles, I am gonna go with jahamaa, and say I was just going to jump in and say, "Yep. You're nuts!!" But when I actually read your question, the first thing I though of was; if no one were interested in serial killers, who would go after them? I've read a few things by John Douglas. He's the guy who basically "invented" profiling for the FBI. Talk about some skin-crawling stories. You should check out, (if you haven't already) Mind Hunters and Obsession. Wow.
No, I think you're perfectly normal to be interested in them. Maybe you'll pursue a career in criminology, or be a detective, or an agent for the FBI. Who knows? I think it's great that there's folks out there with these kinds of interests. Watch, one day you'll be working side-by-side with ladycop!

Oh I knew. I always knew. But knowing and understanding are two very different things. When I actually talked to the survivors of the Holocaust, the true brutality finally sunk in.
Which reminds me, Skittles, didn't you say you wanted to be a lawyer? Studying crime is a good idea for you then.

Am i twisted???
I think most people are inquisitive about what can make others so twisted that they have NO regard for life. They get a thrill - mental or physical - out of hurting others. It is such a foreign mental concept to most of us! Maybe we investigate it to be sure we are not like THEM.

if i were not fascinated with homicide at a young age, i would not have pursued law enforcement. criminology became my avocation and vocation, led me to police academy and law school. .........as for hitler, i read Mein Kampf at age 13, my Dad was not happy about it. but i am glad i learned about that part of world history. never again.

skittles2004 wrote: SEE WHY CAN'T ANYONE GET THAT IT IS OK TO BE INTO THAT STUFF INSTEAD OF GOING AROUND CALLING ME A SERIAL KILLER!!!!Because people get off on judging other people. It is perfectly fine for you to be interested in all sorts of things that others would find weird, offensive, odd, out-of-the-norm, scary, and strange. Like I said before; if no one was interested in those things, who would have jobs like forensics, morticians, etc? I would just pursue your interests, and not worry about what people think. I know at your age it's difficult to be what you see as "different", but seriously, do what you like to do. Do what interests you. There is nothing like being able to really enjoy your work. If you love what you do, you are truly blessed. There are all sorts of people here who could tell you what it's like to be stuck in a job you hate. Go for it Skittles! Thumb your nose at the ones who look at you sideways and do what you like. Period.
