Please don`t misunderstand me.

I REALLY like this site and all the excellent debate and discussion that goes on here. We all fully understand the concept of what makes and why it is a forum "garden".....

BUT do you think that other potential newcomers may be deterred merely by the title of the group - do you think they may think it`s only something to do with gardening or something.

Do you think maybe it should be called, I don`t know, ForumCity or Forumplace or something similar?

Just a thought, and as I said, no criticism at all!

leave it the way it is, you don't see plants upon viewing at all. we just integregate plants into conversation as a means to describe things. this site isn't a year old yet and has been through much change. the creators have been very patient with its progress and have made decisions at times to keep the atmosphere friendly and peaceful. what would re-naming do for the forum, a new attitude?

I like it. :yh_hugs I don't garden but would like to someday! The 'Garden' part of this forum to me is cool. Like we're all different plants in a garden, each offering pluses and minuses. There's poison ivy here, a cactus ot two there and at the other end there are palms, lilacs, cranberry and loess. Gets the imagination going!

Dunno-----I like Forum Garden---------when I think of the different posters and read their posts, I like to think of them as certain veges. Some are turnips, some tomatoes, and then there is your rutabagas and turnips, yuck!!!

We even have flowers and weeds in our Garden and some of the posters fit that category. I'll let others decide who is who, far be it from me to say who is who.

When I first joined I never gave the name a single thought. And if memory serves, most of the newbies just introduce themselves, and jump on in to the discussions. Not really any that I recall ask, "Who do I ask about my gladiolas?" ForumGarden sounds peaceful to me. Of course, it isn't always peaceful, but close enough. :yh_bigsmi

Don't follow your logic, if it was garden forum I wouldn't even look at a site called that. It's like flower garden you wouldn't expect to see vegetables would you.

You'd have to call it something like garden forum garden to attract gardeners.

Many thanks for all the replies. Oh, and incidentally, I didn`t pretend I `knew it all even though I`d only joined in March` - I just said I was asking for opinions - why so rude, Peg?! And to answer the other question, I DIDN`T find this site whilst looking for a discussion forum, but while I was looking for help with a gardening problem (see my first post ever!!!)

If you have any knowledge about plants, they can be cut back, frost bitten, chewed by animals, insects, urinated on and can come back. to eliminate plants you would want to condsider burning the area to prevent further growth. you may want to get a burning permit as you may need authority as most places require notification before you take matters in your own hands with fire.

For other concerns about the garden, if you have ownership within you then may have the right to question, however, the center of interest here should be focused on the topics not the members. if i was to reveal information i have about others i would be considered chokeweed, which is a toxic plant. if you are a forumholic you may want to re-consider smoking your plants insteading of brewing them. Forum Garden is the most appropriate name. :yh_pumpkn

What a terrible terrible heartbreaking shame this is... This garden was a wonderful place.. Wire Grass choked out the tender perennials months ago. Plants like Indigo blue, Coreopsis, Oriental Iris and Rugosa Roses. Plants that show a little color the first year multiply over the course of three years and make the garden a show place. Those beautys started to die back in February. Cheap perennials like impatience and petunias are quick color and fragrance. You pop them in the ground for instant gratification... they die at the end of the year and you are left with a big pile of dirt. Dollar weed is a tricky impostorThe head is pretty the shape of the leaf is nice. It send runners under the ground that choke everything to death. The reason Forum Garden is a great name is because if one has an interest to learn about things that grow... they also learn a tremendous amount about life.. and living things. There is a definate connection between understanding the way growing things come up from the ground.. and the way people live.

THE GARDENS WE PLAN AND PLANT TODAY..LINK US TO LIFE IN A BEAUTIFUL WAY.

SUN AND SOIL..WIND AND SKY..THESE ARE THE HEALTHY REASONS WHY..TO SPEND SOME TIME WORKING IN THE GROUND.SURROUNDED BY THE MOST HEALING SOUNDS.

WATER AND BIRDS CRICKETS AND GEESE..LANDSCAPING BRINGS JOY AND PEACE. OBSERVE OUR BEAUTIFUL EARTH..BECOME AWARE.DISCOVER A FEELING THAT CANNOT COMPARE...TO ANYTHING THAT YOU CAN BUY. A SLICE OF EARTH SURROUNDED BY SKY. CONNECT WITH GROWING THINGS..SOON YOU WILL KNOW

LIKE PLANTS.. HEALTHY HUMANS NOT ONLY LIVE .. BUT GROW.

lol. No need to elaborate, pa....I mean Agnes. Your new incarnation is succinct and intuitive.

and who you calling a weed, weeder? I happen to be a very respectable Pine Tree. :o

You know, I kind of liked the "Garden" It gave me a feeling of peace and tranquillity when I got here. A welcome relief from the testosterone-fueled mayhem of my old forum, as you can imagine. :o

Ah.... First immediate response of applying a metaphor to oneself. Plant talk is merely food for thought. As it is quite common to find more than one flower bed on the grounds of a gardener... not all the beds are generally infected. There might be contained areas dying off because they are neglected.. or because of poor light contaminated soil. or lack of food.

but i digress.I read up on the subject in National Geographic and saw a program on PBS about it. I hope your stance isn't based on your dislike for the political leanings of those most vocal about the environment! Lots of that going around. Invasive species do tremendous damage to the ecosystems they disrupt. I wish I could type faster but I'm sure you see the negatives of grazing land over run with inedible weeds, oily pike devouring native fish in freshwater African lakes, and the locals don't eat the pike, zebra mussels, the cane toad, rats, and KUDZU! I think the environment does change but we have helped cause a serious problem that has caused the greatest die off of species since the Ice Age.

FINAL ANSWER: Vegetable Kingdom (plant life). Annuals are plants that have a short life span, they never survive winter and need re-planting every year.
