And that would be worse than expanding influence/control of everything by international governments/government?

Gosh then Quebec would be really P I S S E D cause they could not be a distinct nation could they :wah:
I think it's a horrible thought.... seems we are so darn gung ho at taking the uniqueness from everybody in some way or another.
Conform conform, FIT IN, if we were all cookies from the same cookie cutters we could all play the same game on the same playing field, have the same money, same products, same t-shirts, same blame for gas emmisions, same religious beliefs
Yeah i don't think I am in favor

Right now there is no such thing as an international government, while there are many international corporations which are unregulated, and responsible only to the bottom line..scary..

As opposed to diversity.
I was thinking of culture and the way that globalisation is leading to a loss of regional and national identity with an overlayed pop and TV culture that is changing youth expectation around the world.

It's already happening. Unrestricted immigration, illegal immigration, intermarriage and re-location have and will continue to blend and eventually create an entirely new culture unknown today. California has a population of 36 million. If you are Caucasian, you are a minority. Voting ballots in Los Angeles are multilingual, hospitals have interpreters for 22 different languages.
As in the U.S., U.K., Austraila & New Zealand, most convenience stores are owned and operated by Indians. I don't view this as good or bad, just that things are changing quickly whether we like it or not. Enjoy your ethnicity & cultural identity while you can. It won't last.

That is exactly why I fear it - I see it happening and I fear the final result which will not be good for the people trying to live it.

Don't fear it. Learn how to be a survivor of it, and by survivor I mean, how to prosper and grow as a human being and individual. Since you and I can't prevent it, we must learn to survive, and fear will have a counterproductive effect. What most people really fear is change, and change is inevitable.

OK, fear is not the word I would have chosen, it is there purely to refer back to the thread title.
I think it is wrong and I believe it is bad for the world - diversity is strength and with strength comes survival. I recognise that I cannot stop it, it is probably unstopable, but that does not mean that I have to welcome it or the effects that it will have.

It's been going on since time began. The Roman Empire the catholic church all were and are forms of globalisation. All that changes is the method.
The effects are good and bad but I think the internet makes a big difference. Ordinary people in one side if the planet can talk to ordinary people on the other in a very personal way. That is new.

And that's good, that people can talk to one another as long as their government does not block the internet. Governments can no longer lie to the rest of the world. It's people will tell us what is going on.

In a way the internet is every bit, if not more so, as big a revolution as the printing press was and for the same reason. You can use it to spread ideas and it allows allow people to look at original sources for themselves rather than just have to rely on what they are told. Realistically govts (and churches come to that) can no more control it than they could stop the spread of ideas in the past however much they might try to.
