The Queen has a Yoda moment in the White House

Post by spot »

Honestly, I'm not making it up.

"Administrations in your country and governments in mine may come and go, but talk we will, listen we have to, disagree from time to time we may, but united we must always remain".

To Balmoral back she should head, in my opinion.

Inspiring she is....

Nothing the matter with it is. Good English it appears to be, yes. Happy for the Queen I am. A new style of speech have I adopted when in future the public I address.

Perhaps your prejudices interfere with your grasp of language.

Prejudiced? Me? I'm a fervent supporter of the monarchy, I'd hate to see it changed in any way. I'm sure I've consistently stuck to that view since long before I arrived here.

Her first "but" screws the sentence out of any elegance and turns the whole into Yodaspeak, it needs to be a full stop. Remove the first "but" and the preceding "may" and I'd agree it works. Looking at it again, removing the other "but" fixes it as well. It depends on where you want the emphasis to lie.
