What makes me sick is the fact that I rang them when my divorce money came through and told them to stop payments and was told no, you're still entitled. :-5

Wow that's awful BB no wonder you are mad, and with every right to be!!
I really hope you are able to sort this out with them, and come to some sort of mutual agreement!

I had a similar thing happen. Make sure they don't charge you interest.
I bought a little time by writing them to ask for a proper bill, before I pay it, that outlines the exact amounts. The government takes for freaking ever to provide full information so it gave me enough time.

My step-daughter has had a similar thing when they were paying her for two children instead of one (some idiot put the same child on the system twice but mi-spelled the second one - duh!)
She was told that while she is claiming any benefit they cannot insist that she repays this amount. Not a lot of help but it does mean that you get to keep what money you do have at the moment.
Lets hope it's one of those mistakes that 'they' decide to right off eventually.

Betty i was just reading something in the paper today about this. It was saying the government may be forced to waive all these debts from tax credits etc. where they have paid out wrong amounts. Stall them as long as you can until you can get the proper informatoin and advice. Good Luck:-6

its so annoying, this tax credit system has been a nightmare...too much money given out...the slogan on the tv adverts was 'pick it up, its yours'

If you write to them pointing this out and giving apprximate dates it could well be that they cannot reclaim it on the grounds that you made best endeavours to correct the problem and they made the mistake. Remember that all calls are recorded.
It might not worth but cannot loose you anything by trying.

Oh **** that's a lotta lolly. It's their error so you shouldn't have to pay, that's really unfair.
