I just read it was fictional for the most part but based very loosely on the events surrounding British born Bob Astles.

Regardless yes it was a great flick.

I knew of this "incident" while it was happening.

The film was very light on the actual subject of genocide and portrayed Amin as an evil Shrek.

Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed the movie very much but in reality Idi Amin was on the same level as Hitler but with a little Hannibal Lecter mixed in.

Not a nice guy.

To call him a child is even giving him too much credit. Child like mentality maybe. But he was an evil and insane man.

Read here.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Idi_Amin

The exact number of people killed as a result of the policies of Amin's regime is unknown. An estimate from the International Commission of Jurists in 1977 is that it was not less than 80,000 and more likely around 300,000. Another estimate, compiled by exile organisations with the help of Amnesty International, put the number killed at 500,000.

Idi Amin became the subject of many rumours and myths, including a widespread rumour that he was a cannibal.

Amazing story.

Everyone should see this film.

I agree with you there it was an eyeopener... he was a truly evil, manipulative, weak man. I mean that scene where he asked the Doctor to make a huge political decision about the journalists was crazy... he was a country leader why would you ask a nobody about something like this....

What blew me away was when he introduced the Doc, on numerous occasions, as his greatest advisor. :-3

Then when things turned to hell he screamed at Nick, "How dare you call yourself my greatest advisor!"

Sounded a lot like my boss.

I have to say again, SEE THIS FILM!

Thanks for bringing it up, Minks.

no kidding and to think this man ruled an entire country and exicuted thousands, darn frightening, I have to wonder what the factoids would be like if we had more info on say... Hitler, do you think he was equally unstable.... it's darn creepy.

Hey. Dr. Lon. Good to see you.

We're quite aware of who the last king of Scotland was.

Just amazed at how someone so out of control can reach the level of power that he did.

I think it's established that Hitler was in no way a stable human being but even he had co-horts and advisors.

Amin did this on his own!

Next will be the story of Hussein and I still think it can't compare to the Amin regime.

This so amazes me, how can it happen?

Look this one up if the subject of inhumanity to humanity interests you.

hey Lon thanks I did just that.

What is sad in all this is how these poor desperate folks of any nation, we will say Uganda for now, rejoiced the change in leadership only to be led into such hell. Was it ignorance or false hope, desperation what? Such a cryin shame.

What they had before Amin was no better. He brought them promises of becoming a great nation.

False hope.

When I was growing up Newark, New Jersey was rioting.

At nightime you could see the skies lit orange as the fires burned from my backyard.

When the dust was settled and residents had to pull thier lives together they began to form groups to rebuild the neighborhoods and each group had a leader.

There were good people that built colleges and hospitals. Even an international airport.

Then there were scum who ran their areas of town for their own means.

Murdered, raped, robbed....

Newark never really recovered.

For all that little city tries to do, she's still known as a ghetto.

Amin saw an opportunity to make himself king of the neighborhood and took it.

Unfortunately, Uganda today is not much better off politically.

Sad.

And Mugabe has been in power since the early eighties?

What about the children's f'ing parents anount, uncles......

Then come home and complain about THIS President!

I'm not talking about Bush. Just Hollowood.

Outstanding film !

Could have done without the young doctor interfering with the real drama which was simply Amin's mind. Great film though.
I AM AWESOME MAN
