How Do You Lke Your Waffles?

Post by Philadelphia Eagle »

This is a self-confessed, self-indulgent post.

Sunday morning is traditionally Waffle Morning in our house and today was no execption.

The waffle iron sat on the counter ready to produce its usual offering of delicious waffles.

I like them 'crispy' and smothered in various jellies and maple syrup.

Today the toppings on offer were blueberry (great with a blueberry waffle mix), apticot, red raspberry and pure maple syrup (we get it from Vermont).

It went a little along the way to make up for the fact that we don't have mothers any more to take out to lunch.

Still - this Mothers' Day - it was lovely to sit on the patio having a 'Waffle Breakfast' - just like our mothers made for us many years ago!

have you ever heard of "KING" syrup? i loved it as a kid and can't get it in florida. so when one of my northern kids is coming down here i always ask them to pick up a bottle of the stuff. it's very like English treacle. i have a belgian waffle maker i just love! not electric.

I like mine best made on my round, vintage (1912-1924?) waffle maker.

It's from GE and still works after all these years. Has a "grease catcher"

on it, which you need 'cause the thing will stick like mad if you don't use

something, they didn't know about Teflon back then! Have an electric

coffepot to go with it.

Back to the waffles, I like mine with just lots of butter and some syrup.

Husband likes his with bits of bacon in them!

This thread brings back happy memories. My grandma used to make the best waffles I've ever eaten in my entire life, even up till now. She had a old electric iron, possibly like the one already mentioned. She made the batter home-made, not from a mix, and now I wish I had gotten it from her before she passed away. They were thick and fluffy and I've never had any like them. Smothered in butter and Mrs Butterworths syrup. Didn't get any better than that. I also get them at a little mom and pops cafe where I used to work. That cook always "slathered" melted butter on for you. Good stuff!
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

Waffles, yum!!! I like mine with butter, maple syrup, and then each bite dipped in creamy peanut butter. Add salty meat on the side, like sausage or bacon. (happy sigh)
