Scottish inventor John Logie Baird gave the first public demonstration of television in 1926 in Soho, London. Ten years later there were only 100 TV sets in the world.

(I didnt think they even had indoor plumbing until 1982)

I don't remember the era this was in, but at one time, when playing cards were just paper and not plastic coated, prisoners used to make pipe bombs with them. They'd use the hearts and diamonds because the red contained a diazo dye that was unstable and reactive to nitrogen. They'd add glycerine and potassium permanganate, which is something used for snakebites. All this stuff would go into the pipe and then they'd heat the pipe and that was it. I remember seeing this on TV once. The U.S. Playing Card Company confirms it.

It's also in The Anarchist Cookbook.
