Where do missing socks go?

Post by buttercup »

Your washing machine finishes its cycle & there is always a sock missing, do they get stuck behind the drum & if so why dont they jam the drum & stop the machine from working over a period of time?

They will stick to the very top underside of the tumbler, out of view. Run your hand on the underside. They also like to find their way into pillowcases and hide. Socks are very shy and will seek out moist dark areas to hide.

Hey something I know that you don't! Fairies come down when you're asleep and steal them to use as stockings at Christmas.

It would be nice if they multiply in the dryer instead of decreasing lol.

I tend to throw my dirty clothes on the floor after I take them off in the bedroom. Yes, terrible habit. Sometimes, they make it to the laundry basket. My missing socks are usually still on the floor after I've picked up the rest of the clothes and wash them! Never understood why people with normal washing habits ever lost socks, though!

Honestly, though, I think it happens in the dryer. Can't really explain the process, but at the laundromat one time I saw a sock in one of the dryers (you know, with the glass doors) getting stuck in the front and falling down under the thing that spins. Don't know all the technical terms, or if you can picture it, but that's where one sock ended up anyway. And then perhaps it gets sucked through the air tube? Uh, I don't know! :-3

It's one of those unexplained mysteries.... right up there with UFOs and crop circles. :D
