For those of you who like horror films...

what scenes "do it" for you?

For me it's usually the scenes where someone is climbing through a window and they have to get their feet through before the monster dude grabs them.

When the victim is running from the bad guy and they run into a room, slamming the door behind them, then slink down with their back against the door, thinking they're safe. About that time, the axe blade comes crashing through the door, missing the victim's head by an inch or two.

It is always the "sounds" for me. I still can not watch the first American Werewolf; the part where you hear the baying in the background, that is it for me.

I love the old black and white "Frankenstein" as Boris Karloff (the montser) begins to stir on the operating table as the good Dr. Frankenstein administers 500,000 gazillion volts of electricity to get the monster jumpstarted.

The worst horror movie I ever saw was "The Thing". Wait for 90 minutes to see James Arness at the door looking like a giant carrot.

hehe. I'm a Canuck I tried to lose the accent for 8 months but it stuck.

Good call on the choices here.

I'm with you on the sounds, KB. That's what made Jaws a huge success and the only reason I wanted to see The Possession Of Emily Rose... creepy laugh.

Starting at about the two minute mark I get the "willies", then a about 2:25 I start to think about turning it off, then at 3:50 I do. Freakin werewolves! I am scared of only three things, God cause he sees everything I do, my Mother because she can simply look at me and turn me into the saddest sight you will ever see, and werewolves cause they mfing eat people!

Ugh

The scene in The Silence of the Lambs wherein Clarice searches for Buffalo Bill in his house of horrors, unaware that he is stalking her with infra-red goggles.

Dallas hunting the alien in the air ducts of the Nostromo, sweeping his flame-thrower to and fro in the darkness, in ALIEN.

The echoing underground labyrinth through which the luckless lady spelunkers must wander in search of an exit and an escape from the cannibalistic denizens who live there in The Descent.

"Come play with us, Danny." - The Shining

The achingly lovely young woman with a taste for needles and a wire-saw in Audition.

Eleanor and Theo cowering in a bedroom of Hill House as an entity in the hallway attempts to open the door, in The Haunting (the original 1963 film, not that horrid "remake" perpetrated by Jan deBont more recently).

That's all for now. :D

When the camera pans to the door and you s-l-o-w-l-y see the handle turning. As a teenager it used to make me scared to go to the door to go to bed!

With the advent of home theatre the soundtrack is as essential as the film. Not to imply you cant enjoy an old black and white with inferior sound. A good example would be Whatever Happened To Baby Jane ?

Anyway nothing will make you jump like a footstep or bump in the night with a speaker 10" from your ear.
