Last May, I sat on a train at the Cornwall train station, alone, and waved goodbye to my friend Theia. I was waving goodbye to a woman who felt like a sister, who lived an ocean away from me. As she got smaller and smaller, I knew I very well might never see her again. What an incredible experience!!!

She invited me to stay at her home, in England, without ever having met me.

Love to you Jackie.... You are always in my thoughts. What a wonderful life this is, if only we re only able to keep the minds of children, and love one another.

Theia has always been one of my favorite Gardeners. When she first came she was shy and pensive. If I remember right, it was Abbey, Betty, Theia, and I were playing a guessing game when we first clicked. I'm not sure what it was that first sparked our friendship, but it's real and it's strong.

I love you Theia!

We had a ball. ( I think) The experience of two strangers, coming to know each other, is really something else. I had jet lag, really bad, for days. i get motion sickness really easily, and was feeling ill riding on the " opposite side of the car. So I took motion sickness medication... and would fall asleep in the middle of her speaking to me. Her home was like staying at a spa. She had a room ready for me. Bought wine for me ( wino that I am) Arranged dinner dates for me to meet her children....... I will NEVER FORGET HER.

Weeder, I want to say that I'm jealous of you....Theia is a beautiful human being and I would love the opportunity to meet her.

We spent a lovely day, at Glendurgan Gardens. A magical place where I discovered Daphne DuMurier sat on the rocks, and wrote Rebecca, as well as her other novels. On a shopping trip in Truro... Theia bought chocolate covered apricot cremes for me, as a surprise, because she discovered I loved them. Was I really there? I think I am going to have to go back... it wasnt long enough. Is it really possible that a human being could be fortunate enough to have been the recipiant of affection, generosity, and hospitality, on another shore? What more could one hope for, during the course of a lifetime. These encounters are the bright moments that keep humans dreaming, believing, and trusting that there does exist magic in our world still.
