Who else here hates their job - and why

Do you wake up and say - oh yea I can't wait to go to work - or do you wake up and say "oh crap". I wake up and say the latter because I'm really good at my job but my boss does not like me but can't fire me because I'm very good at my job. I get the worst schedules.

Mmmm.....moving that debate on a bit.....do you think a person should stay in a job they are really unhappy with (colleagues, work, impacts on their health etc).....or give it up (and risk financial suffering, fall-out with family, etc). Thank you!

I will have to give you my personal business philsophy:

"if you aren't replacable, you aren't promotable." If you are that miserable, transfer to another department. Or be sneaky and under-handed and get HIM transfered.

I hate how those who speak up get punished. The Bible says a fool is known by his many words.

They use to really mistreat day and evening shift people. And being on night shift as long as I did not speak up on anyone's behalf they left me alown.

But you do what is right and you end up getting the shaft on days off.

Try and put in a legitamate work man's comp claim and your evaluations go from stellar to pathetic.

Went 4 years with several postitives and no negatives. Now everything I do is alegedly negative.

Trying to hit the 10 year mark for pension purposes. Really should transfer to something less stressfull.

My network marketing also gives me hope that I won't need my just over broke job. Also have a rental unit. Which is sometimes more annoying then my just over broke job.

I would like my job a lot more if I didn't get cussed at nearly every day by callers. I am seriously considering going to the legislature and proposing a bill that states in order for anyone to get a phone or phone book they have to go to 'Telephone Manners School'. And that includes the mother who thinks it's cute that her small child calls 911 over and over again. I never get to talk to anyone nice. . . . unless they want me to do something. The only people I talk to are pissed off victims, criminals and other law enforcement personnel.

Really, couldn't someone call me just to say something nice?

I think I'll start a new business and just call people and tell them things like, you look nice today, what a beautiful smile you have, great job or I don't know how you do all that and still manage to look so fresh! Investors anyone?? LOL LOL :wah:

Wow nvalley.....spur of the moment or after some thought? Do you have another job lined out?

I worked for an ambulance co for 10 years and after finally being fed up with the upper management staff, transferred to the competition. I was worried at first if I was doing the right thing and after a year or so, was very happy. I decided my happiness meant more than the 2 dollar pay cut.

And 911, I know what your saying. I also get tired of the "ambulance abusers", people who do not need an ambulance but know we cannot refuse transport. I'm talking about the folks who have had a fever for a month, or a sore throat. Those are not true emergencies. And to make it worse, I always feel these people are keeping someone who has a true emergency from getting my services, which has happened on a many of occasions.
I probably posted that in an ambien trance-soryy

no it has been building to the moment of quit for about 9 months. The management I hired on with were fired then and the new ones have never so much as a "thank-you" or "good job" to me. My last review was a real eye opener to how they felt about me. Quitting today was spur of the moment because when I'm crying at the very thought of going to work - it's time. I have a 2 month cushion so I should be OK.

I get to retire in a little over four years as long as the government doesn't try to make me stay longer. I am young enough to get another job but. . . screw that!

I can do anything or nothing if I don't want to. The perfect job would be me in a sunny room with my own bathroom, no telephone, no visitors, no management, just me and my work! HA, as if! Oh, wait, that's called working at home, but, if I'm at home, why would I work?

 I have a headache

I am fortunate to have had two different careers that I found exciting and challenging and paid well. I never watched the clock because I had no set hours to work, as a result, I often had to remind myself to go home to the family, if they didn't remind me first. I feel sorry for those in jobs that they hate. My advice would be to change jobs or retrain for something that you truly would enjoy. Life is too short to work at something you dislike, besides, you are not really an asset to your employer if you hate your job, nor can you be a very happy father, husband or partner

I went to college and knew I wanted to be in education..I had ALWAYS been in K-4th and loved it.. Then I had to move up with the child I had been working with who was deaf..

When I entered into Middle School I went nuts..No respect what so ever for teachers...I had never seen the kind of abuse verbally that they take..At that point I wondered why I had children who would eventually have to go there.......ARGHHHHHH...

I started to HATE my job..but love the child I was with - THEN - the NAUGHTY kid came to our school..I know I should never say that but holy cow was he a messed up child..I ended up helping restrain him more then I worked with the child I was asigned...I was spit at - kicked at , hair pulled out, screamed at, scratched and bit by a child that had the cops called on him 3 times a week..Our school just didn't want to be the 3rd one to reject him....I had enough and broke my contract and now I do subbing for all the districts in the county - --what really was sad was leaving behind the child I taught to sign and speak all those years...BUT I was much happier and more relaxed at home...So way to go for letting the stressful job go!!!!!! :-6

I normally like my job, but today has been one of those days that I'm so fed up I could scream. One of the girls wants the next 4 weekends off so me and the third girl would be stuck working every weekend for the whole month. Our boss says, "Well, she will be leaving in a few months so just put up with it". Why should we? We had plans because we each have every 3 weekends off. We made plans for the weekends we were supposed to be off but she can't do this? I can see something coming up every now and then, but the next 4 weekends? She also does things like goes over, sits by our boss, wraps her knee because she "is in such pain", yet she can go hunting turkey with her boyfriend? She is one of those people who could wear a tent and you could tell she is big breasted, but she wears the skimpiest shirts possible. Unfortunately, all our boss sees is her boobs and not her head games. Then tonight I get a call from a girl that works one day a week. The alarm is going off. She tried to call our boss but he would not answer his phone. He's home, I know this, because he has to work tomorrow at his job and won't be out this late. So she calls me. Now it is not my job to rescue anyone, but I won't leave the poor girl stuck. I told her what button to hold in. It didn't work. So, there I am, getting dressed again to head down and reset the alarm for her. Luckily, the alarm company called her, they reset the alarm from there, and here I sit, back in my night clothes. What's the point of all this? I don't know but I feel better now. :wah: Thanks for letting me vent.

I quit a job when I dread going there. Theory: how can I find a job I like when I am doing something else?

I bypassed years of assisting in film before becoming head of the department. I was working at Starbucks and thought "I either believe in myself or I don't". I quit and two days later got my first job as Head Special Effects Makeup on a low budget, but union, film.

It took longer to get out of film work when I'd had enough but finally when I knew I had finished with it and made up my mind 100% I got a new career contracting in exterior finishing (construction). Who would of thunk? Bypassed years of assisting (because I had the money to buy the tools) and went straight into contracting jobs over $10,000/month within half a year. My "partner" double crossed me (looked like the end) and I just hooked up with a new partner who was also double crossed. The two of us should make a fortune this summer. What I'll do after that? I'm sure excited to find out. At least if my career falls apart I'm convinced there is another one around the corner.
