Nasty Hurricanes again?

Post by cars »

Just heard on the News, projected weather forcasts saying Florida will be hit by worse Hurricanes then last year!!! :wah:

I sure hope "they" are wrong, as my Folks are still "Homeless" from last years Hurrican Frances!!! (Their house was in the hard hit "Palm Bay" area)

Their house just started undergoing rebuilding efforts two weeks ago. They had to wait till their name came up on the waiting list for next available builders, there were thousands of unfortunate people in the same predicament!!! :guitarist

If my Folks are lucky, their house will be completed by mid July, & not so lucky as it's just in time for the new Hurricane Season!!! :(

Thanks Angel~~~my family members lost 2 houses in hurricane andrew. and everything they owned. my aunt was never the same. all family photos gone as well as material and basic possessions. a lifetime of history. my cousins are miami fire-rescue and homicide. one female cousin lost her baby from the stress of 24/7 duty. last year was horrifying, we are activated and not allowed to go check our own houses. we are required to live at the jail so we are available for patrol. there is no sleep or rest there. so we worry about our own homes and loved ones. one good thing, our Sheriff loves us and we stand down, will not answer calls during the storm. everyone had fair warning. we were ordered to park under bridges and stay there. prior to storm we go house to house, tell people to leave. if they refuse to leave we ask where to send the body.

I surely hope this doesn't get into a global warming question. There are patterns - according to trade winds - that set up these years of hurricane - or tornado - and they are global. Have you never paid attention to the hurricanes that occur in the Indian ocean and come to land, Japan has been affected many times. They call them something else that I am too tired to remember the name. What I'm saying is that maybe in wet years in NM means fewer hurricanes off of Africa into the Gulf. I just thought of how stupid that sounds. NEVER MIND.

The worst hurricane EVER in Britain was NOT predicted by weather `experts` even with only 2 or 3 hours to go, so I hope yours are totally wrong too.

Difficult to understand how a hurricane was not forecast in UK! It's almost impossible not to forecast one!

You can track these and predict their arrival if not precisely where they will come ashore. Was it a true hurricane? What Category was it? I'm interested in weather phenomina. I didn't think it got hot enough in UK for hurricanes.

Hope the prediction for uncoming hurricane season does not come to pass!

Although we're not in the mainstream hurricane belt here we usually catch the edge as they barrel up the east coast.

John - have checked with University of Denver Hurricane archives.

If the 'hurricane' you refer to was in Oct 1988 it was actually officially classified as a 'Storm'. It didn't reach the required sustained wind speed to be a hurricane.

A full hurricane - even a Category One - is impossible not to see coming!
