Good luck charms?

Post by RedGlitter »

Do you believe in good luck charms of any kind?

If so what kind do you have?

I sometimes have pinned to my makeup bag, a 1966 quarter with a hole in it

several lucky keyrings

a little gold plated ingot thingy, forgot what it's called but it symbolizes wealth in Chinese culture

A small red Buddha

A crystal rosary

A fairy cross (staurolite cross from Georgia)

raven feather

several other feathers

St. Francis medal

Red Glitter you are very superstitious by the sounds of things. I don't actually carry any lucky charms, however i do certain actions that i tell myself will dictate my luck. For example i may place something in a certain place or not split the posts when walking with someone. Maybe you have an opinion on something i experienced. Thanks for letting me read that, Maccat. I am a definite believer in the paranormal, it's a part of my faith. I would say that was a clear message from your father, if you were to ask me what I thought. A lot of people might not cotton to that idea, but to me, these "weird" happenings are normal. It only makes sense (to me anyway) that our loved ones were here for us in this life, why wouldn't they want to contact us from the next one? I just lost my mom to cancer a year ago. I have had several dreams about her since but they were just dreams. However shortly after she left us, I had a dream that I swear was not just a dream but a meeting between us. She had always promised me if she could let me know she made it safely to the other side, she would. We had many talks about this over the years. And this "dream" was so vivid and when I woke up I had the most complete feeling of contentment. I was happy. Completely unlike any other dream I have ever had. I believe firmly that we met in that dream.

I would be interested in any other experiences you might like to share. This is one subject I never tire of hearing about.

I can't stand that commercial about putting the feet back on the rabbits, it is more than stupid.

I guess I do not believe in good luck charms, I do not see how an object can bring good or bad luck either way.

Thanks for your comments Red Glitter. Its good to hear you have a keen interest in this subject. Many an interesting conversation we shall have in future postings. Your experience whether it was your mother or not, at least that dream made you feel good and thats the main thing. Personally i believe it was as i do with regard to my father, life goes on in the spirit world, i am sure of that.

I wear my St Jude medal, it is more of a symbolic thing than luck. I retired my lucky charm; it was a bear carved from amber. My dad's nickname in school was Bear, a lot of folks still call him that; for some that is all they will call him. That bear didn't leave my neck for 10 years. I had one before it, but gave it to a friend. The last one I will as well. I really don't believe in luck, but I do believe in symbolism.

That's really nice, KB. I appreciate that. I understand.

I had a really neat St. Jude necklace I wore while my mom was kicking cancer. I buried it with her. Never thought about replacing it either. Not that I feel let down at all, just that I don't feel I need it any more..least not right now.

Old Thaddeus is the patron saint of lost causes; and a woman I know refers to me as Thadd when she writes sometimes. I posted one of those stories here. Just like the woman who called me her Sisyphus it is all about the allusion with me. I changed my mind one of my upcoming tattoos. I'll show the picture I am going to use to get one done.

Here is the story:

Maybe it isn't symbolism as much as allusion I believe in.

That's going to be a cool tattoo. I hope I'll get to see it when it's done.

I'll read that story first today and then I'm going to spend some time reading the ones you wrote last night. Catching up. My gosh, you just keep cranking them out! Amazing. I'm really glad you joined FG. I sincerely believe in the worth of your writing. :-6

I combined them (the 1-6) into one file. I'll email it to you. That doesn't free you from making comments though.

I have worn as a talisman, for the past 45 years, a 1880 U.S. Ten Dollar gold coin on a chain around my neck.

The only other object I carry is a twenty pence piece...it fell from nowhere and landed on the table when I was in Turkey, and I've carried it since.

That's nice that you have Rowan trees there. I don't think we have them here but I could be wrong on that. I was thinking they were a UK tree. That's cool about the twenty pence! I'd definitely consider that lucky!

That would be nice to have, Lon. How did it come to be a luck charm for you?

Scientific name for the Rowan is Sorbus aucuparia, it's also called the Mountain Ash. It's a European native, but there are Chinese varieties.
