I used to do karate and there's no way I'd have messed with the top dudes. I find I chew better with teeth.

I am proud to hold both a Pink & Mint Green Belt (the highest obtainable) in the Ancient Technique of Tae Kwa Meong. I began study as a teenager 50 years ago and have practiced this art ever since. One must be pure of heart and clear of mind to master this ancient art. One of the most important parts of the technique is to master the Blood Curdling scream, directed at your advisary. This is usually sufficient to frighten most normal people and if not, Tae Kwa Meong teaches you to be a dead shot with your 357 Magnum which is conveniently concealed within your Pink Belt. Peace be Unto You.

To quote the immortal James Brown, the hardest working man show business ever saw, so they say; "I don't know karate, but I know carazzzy".

there 100s of types of karate some with rules some without

sports karate combat karate

when matching mma against sports based karate . karate has no chance because one it trained to follow strict rule and a points only system

when ya are following a point based system and point removed for contact

so not made to go for the KO

when you compair shall we say shodkan trad karate

different set of rules

come down more to who wants it more

i can see fatel flaws in mma

in a street self defence dragging an attacker to the ground bringS a whole new problem

the hoodies mate who plants a well aimed kick to the side of ya head or ribs

any training is an advantage

and the other Q is what is mma mixed is the first bit

it is not stand alone art

has thai

karate

judo

jujitsu

kung fu

tkd

jkd

plus

greco roman wresterling

so the true Q is is a mma without rule

better than karate the answer is yes

but there is no mma without the ingredents

Ok, I'm not an expert on karate but my brother got 1st dan black belt when he was younger.

As well as teaching him to seriously injure someone if he wanted to (!) it also taught him -control, restraint, confidence and respect.

He competed in competitions where the aim was to show your skill but with control - points were deducted for contact.

He learned to use his skills in defence only, which he did when attacked once by yobs and on another occasion when a friend was getting attacked - each time he showed enough restraint to just get himself and his friend out of that situation and not seriously injure someone - which he could have.

I don't know about MMA but it seems that it wouldn't exist without the others???
