Child killers

Post by maccat »

In the early 90's Liverpool was rocked with the news of a terrible murder of a 4year old child. James Bulger was kidnapped from a shopping mall, taken to a railway line where he was stoned to death before his body was ;left on the rail track for a train to run over it, slicing the poor kid in half. Who commited this brutal crime? 2 ten year old boys. The argument at the time was whether these kids knew any better. was they aware of the magnitude of commiting such a crime. They ended up in a childrens reform school and only did a small custodial term. They have been free for quite a few years now. Living a life of annonimous existence.

At what age do you think a child should become accountable for his actions. From a very young age we all learn right from wrong.

I dont know if you can put an age to it as such, you just have to go on what the crime is.

Those kids knew what they were doing to James Bulger. I would have put them away a lot longer but i'm also for the death sentance so might not be the best person to answer this.

Or you may be just exactly the person to answer.

I remember when this event happened. I agree with Buttercup- those kids knew what they were doing. How do you not know at that age that killing someone is wrong? Or even laying him on the tracks? If you do this at that young an age, I think you're showing a serious propensity toward a tendency to grow up to be a fk'd up adult and you should be stopped in your tracks.

Would I put these kids to death? That I don't know. It's hard to say "well they're just kids" on one hand and not say it on the other.

What do you think, Maccat?

It depends on many things. In this particular case, the offenders were "detained during her Majesty's pleasure", with a minimum term set. I am not sure what, if anything, else should be done.

When I first read of that case, I was reminded of this one:

Strong stuff, but fascinating.

Yes, they were detained On her majestys pleasure, However these evil souls are free, living under an asumed name with no more inconvenience to their existence. They dished out their evil treatment, knowing it was evil and relying on their age to exonerate them from responsibility. I personally know the bulger family, my father being friends of James's fathers father.. The poor kid would have been 17years old now and at the peak of his life. But sadly some evil children deprived them of this. Just as we would punish an adult, James's killers should have recieved similar punishment.
