Cell Phone Etiquette

Post by Lon »

I have nothing against Cell Phones, in fact, I embrace all the new technology, but some cell phone users are just too much.

I walk into the Men's Room (Toilet for UK friends) at the airport and here are several guys standing at the urinals with their right or left hand on the cell and the other--------well!!!

I am sitting on the John (Commode for UK friends) at the theatre and listen to the guy in the next stall telling his significant other that he is at the office working hard and will probably have to work that evening. He makes another call and is making a date for that evening.

I'm starting to notice the number of ripped bumpers, smashed head and tail ligts on cars with people on their cells. Hmmm!!

Don't get me started on Cell Phone use. I also think they are extremely valuable in an emergency. Most people use them as they should be used. ;)

It's the rest of them that make me want ripe the damn phone out of their hand and beat them with it. Nothing is that important (including your own life, and the lives of others) that you can't pull over to a safe place and yell at your kids, husband, co-workers.. 3 minutes one way or the other isn't going to make a difference. Of course if your a Physician your in a different group, but I see very few Physicians miss use there cell phones, they would prefer never to receive calls after hours. :-5 :-5

As I have stated before if some idiot kill a member of my family while they were talking on their cell phone and driving, I will beat them to death with it. Get over yourself your not that important to take the chance of killing people because of a phone call. Put your damn hands on the wheel and drive..

Chattergal, that story had me LMAO. I sat and listened to a whole conversation on cellphones on my answering machine one day. Too bad it wasn't something more interesting LOL

Back to the subject at hand. If you cannot drive without being on the phone. Stay home. If you cannot shop without being on the phone, don't shop. If you cannot eat in a restraunt without being on the phone, stay home and eat. Do these things when you have time to do them without being on the phone. I find it totally rude.

I use my cell for just about everything.. but .. in restaurants it is off, or on a single beep in for emergency purposes.. driving.. hands free set up. Never call anyone from a restaurant.. bad .. bad..

It is amusing though.. had a lady driving behind me one day.. chatting on a phone..(no hands free).. doing her make up.. etc... thought I was gonna get a new rearend for the truck.. then she has the audacity to flip me the one finger salute.. sigh.. gotta love it...

Chattergirl, i have the same thing happen to me quite often, the funniest was about 2 weeks ago, my neice & her partner called by mistake on the way home from the airport, they were having a conversation about buying a bulldog but were hesitant because of the price £2500!

She phoned me the next day and i told her that i'd had a dream about her buying a bulldog but it caused problems because the dog had cost £2500!

She was amazed, and thought that i was another Nostradamus, of course i told her the truth when i'd finished having my fun with her.

She's decided to stall getting a pup for now, which i am grateful for cos she's off to Egypt for two weeks on Friday and yours truly would have been looking after the puppy. ;)

I too, am against mobile phone use in restaurants but was reminded of a bizzare incident awhile back which totally excused the user.

I went out to dinner with a couple of friends, one of whom brought their mother along. We had just ordered our meals when the 'mother's' mobile rang (huge cringe factor, other diners staring at us, embarrassment+++) So she, the 'mother' starts speaking really, really loudly (why do people do that with mobile phones?Arrgh!) and the rest of us, especially her daughter, just wanted to crawl under the table and die!!!

Anyhow as the yelling/loud talking continued it became apparent to eveyone, and I mean everyone in the restaurant, she was talking to someone in a 'crisis'.

It turns out it was a friend of hers who had, just minutes before, had a car accident and was, as she spoke, hanging upside down in her car-seat (couldn't get the seat-belt undone) Yes she had called the emergency services first but obviously in a state of shock rang her friend, the 'mother' to let her know how she was doing !!?!! while she waited for them to arrive.

Needless to say the 'mother' took-off immediately to the scene of the accident leaving us all worried, still slightly embarrassed and yet marvelling at the 'handiness' of the mobile phone.

Footnote: Happy ending for upside down lady, she escaped with only minor injuries.
