This thanks to BC for giving me this idea.As you all know i have 2 male rotties and what i would like to know what are your feelings on these "Killer Dogs"?

This is a breed that do have alot of bad press, this i think is just share lack of education,i will be honest with you i to used to think that rotties where the Devil dog which is no thanks to the film the omen.

It is all down to the owners, its like having kids really and with these dogs there is alot of training that is needed, its all to do with good maners,i am and will always be shocked at the the share strength of this breed and how loyal they are.I have had a trainer coming to my house now 5 mths and it has improved JJ the oldest rott two fold,i have had alot of trouble when out walking my dogs, and even a death treats towards my dogs which i find very upsetting.

I take Indy my other rottie into town, and the look that i get from the public is really quite funny, but once they approach me and Indy i can turely say they go away with a much more open mind about rotties.I am which i have done yet a home checker for my area for homless rotts, there are alot of homless ones out there, some are often beating badly and others are just left to starve to death:-1

I would be so lost without my 2 wonderful boys they are turely and very good role modal for this misunderstood breed.Thank you BC for this idea

I think Rottweilers are as great a dog as any other. I was friends with a woman who had four and that helped me get more comfy with them. I've seen some mean ones, but then again I was once nearly attacked by a shepherd and a lab mix, so there ya go. Rotts are wonderful dogs.

And yes Jess, so are Staffs! ;)

I know of no "bad" dogs.

I am with el taco.

My brother despises dogs, but as a young boy he was viciously bit by a pomeranian.

In this city we have lived through the trashing of many large breed dogs.

Dobermans, Collies, Pit Bulls, German Shepherds and Rotties.

It isn't about the breed it is about the training of the dog as well as the approach the human uses.

I raised my children to always ask to pet a dog and treat it with respect. They are young adults now and still ask to pet every dog.

I think Neffy your dogs would be wonderful to meet because I bet they reflect the love you bestow upon them.

A dog is a reflection of his treatment by his owner.

I don't think bad of them, its how they've been raised as Neffy says.

I'm wary of any dog initially, until I have the owners say so that the dog is safe.

Both my children have been taught not to approach dogs, not out of fear but out of the understanding that some dogs just don't like children or strangers! They both know to check with the owner first.

Used to have two Springers when the children were little, miss their company but not the ties!

I'm afraid of large dogs - I nearly had my face removed by a German Shepard.

I avoid them - I'm sure they're loving.

Yes you're right neffy, rotties have gotten sensationalized bad press whenever there are incidents involving them. That's usually cause when "they" go bad & bite/attack someone, there usually is major bodily harm done, sometimes even death. So what it kinda boils down to for me is, if I was going to be attacked by a dog, I would much rather it be by a Yorkie, or Maltese, or a Chawaia type. Instead of one of any big guys!!!

I blame the media for at least 80% of the problem.

Some years back there was an incident involving two specific dogs attacking someone. The media couldn't even report the breed correctly- they were Presa Canarios! The media reported them at first as pit bulls. Right away everyone was on the pit bull offense again.

i didn't read anything about what others said about Rottys.

I absolutely love them. They are the most friendly loving dogs in the world.

I had 3 of them die of Lymphoma by the time they were 5 years old. They were all born in NM. It was always very sad and upsetting to me.

SOOOO, when you buy a Rotty...make sure it is from out of state, make sure the parents are sound, AND.... never plant hyacinth bulbs in your yard.....very poisonous to dogs.

Rottweilers, in my experience are some of the most sensitive, intelligent, and loyal dogs that I've ever had. The dogs are generally highly protective of their owner, but the owner has to be in charge of this type of dog... they can't perceive of themselves as a leader, but they will readily take on that role if they are allowed to, which can be dangerous for this breed. They are also very social dogs... and they need to be socialized... they especially love children, and they are rather child like and playful, themselves. If you treat them well and train them well, they are wonderful and gentle companions. :-4

Lol Minx I laugh about it as well. The little begger had teeth like needles, everyone was terrified of him,I made sure I had flares on after that so he could hang off them and give my ankles a break.

Thats a pretty mean thing to say.

It's all in how the owner raises them!

My cousin got attacked by a black lab. :-5

ok yeah I agree it's a lot to do with the owners but rotties aren't the kind of dog to have round kids, sorry.

I LOVE Rotties, never had one, but have had neighbors that have had them through the years, and always BIG babies/loving dogs that I've experienced.

Back in the fall I was delivering Pizza in the evening for extra income and I walked up to a house and by the front door step there was this rottie, as beautiful as ever, statue like just looked up at me....I said hi to him/her and when I was leaving he/she wanted to go home with me, so sweet...my heart melted!!:-4

I am one of those people that love pit bulls also...I don't believe in eliminating a certain breed, and really dislike the term "bully breeds"....but that's what they call them, I think it's hog wash!!

Mink's picture of the Killer Pomeranian made me giggle -- :D

I have never really known anyone with a rottie, so havent had the chance to get to know them really, but i love dogs well all animals, and i think rotties do look big and cuddly:D My Brother has a staffie called Harvey Moon and he is just gorgeous!!. i go there every thursday evening to see my sis in law and he is always waiting at the window till he sees me turn the corner, then he proceeds to nearly knock me down the whole time im trying to get in, shoes off and settled on the couch:wah: i then have to have him on my knee ( what a weight he is as well:wah: ) while he licks me to death and procced to stroke him for at least an hour before he is satisfied. I have heard they are not supposed to be good with other dogs, but so far he seems great, he loves greeting other dogs and wants to play, he is nearly ywo so still a pup i guess.

My neighbour has a rottie, he's massive - also the biggest baby I ever met. Trouble is some of the bigger dogs get alot of bad press. The smaller ones can have problems too but they are just not reported so much.

Heres my two (I think I posted this piccy before), my shepherd is 110lb full of love and a complete sappy bear. He came over from the UK with us - so another Brit (with German blood) in USA :-6

Our other dog is a Brittany Spaniel, she is also a sap. :-4
