BME continues with lip plates

Post by RedGlitter »

I was looking for tribes that wear lip plates and I saw on BME (Body Modification Extreme) that this kind of decoration/mutilation (your call) has made its way over to the "civilized" world.

The bifurcated prong is becoming popular too, if you can find some photos to post.

That doesn't even sound good. I have seen people with bifurcated tongues and *eep* bifurcated penii. I'd elaborate on that last one because it's pretty bizarre but I'm not sure how appropriate that would be here.

There's no accounting for people.

I don't think it's shopped, Buttercup....here's an even bigger plate for you....and the accompanying blurb:

The Surma, a pastoral people, originate from the remote plateaus of southwestern Ethiopia, near the border of Sudan. Both males and females of the Surma tribes shave their heads as a mark of beauty. The women wear lip plates; their lower lips are pierced and stretched as ever-larger plates are inserted over time. The larger the plate, the more appealing the woman, and indicates the number of cattle required for her dowry. This plate is worth 75 head of cattle.
