I know there is no comparison...your boys have Dad around to kick their butts in gear if need be!!

I am currently picking my jaw off the floor. I am a H-U-G-E classic car fan. My very first car was a '68 Mercury Cougar named Lucy. My sister had a gold 69 Mustang that she eventually totaled by running it into an auto insurance building (hello irony!).

I get it from the pops. He infected me, now I drool over the classics. MMMMMMM HMMMMM.

Your son better be good to it. I know when I got behind the wheel of Lucy I felt invincible.

Thanks, I've had the car for about 20 years. My second son did wreck it once. Back right quater panel. Then he forgot to latch the hood once and it flew off on him driving down the road, so I have had to fix it a couple of times. I figure I own the car to drive not just look at. It has the 350 C.I. rocket engine in it with a cam so it does have some power. My other two sons always wanted me to either put a stroker in it or the 455 c.u. engine in it but I refused. Imagine that. When this boy gets done driving it I might go with the 455.

I know what you mean. This car has become like an old friend. When I drive it I can never figure out why everyone is gawking at me. When I put gas in it a crowd almost always comes around to look at it.

That car is cool, my dad never gave me a car when I was 16, but then come to think of it, he didn't have a car himself, in fact, I am the first one in my family who learned to drive, which is a bit mad, when yo consider that my dad built cars for a living, but he was a bit eccentric like that. Cool car though, god I wish we had cars like that here, our cars are much more boring unfortunatly. :-1

Right YZGI, that's what any car is for! But it's just the worry woes that the parents have for the drivers of the car that makes for Gray hair!!!

We didn't let our daughters or son get their "lerner's permits" until they turned "17", even though they were eligible to get it at 16. And then, when they turned around 17 & 2 months is when I started to teach all our kids to drive. And I made them drive the actual car that was going to be theirs, (they all had their own) around the same closed industrial park for about 3 months untill they could handle the car in their sleep! Then we went out on the side roads where they encountered other cars, and they were toatally comfortable around them. Then after another month on side roads we finally went on the main highways for another month! By the time they went for their driver's license test they all passed with flying colors! All 4 are now driving for over 20+ years and none of them ever had a mishap, & or even speeding ticket!!!

I started my youngest daughter (and her friends) round the station / supermarket car park / local airfield at thirteen. She passed her test just after her seventeenth birthday at the first time of asking

Yikes my daughter is 38 and I still won't let her drive my 73 Camaro. :wah: One good thing about the old cars parts are usually cheap by comparison. Great looking car you have there, reminds me that is time to paint the Camaro.
