Do we over dramatize pregnancy

Post by buttercup »

Again Accountable's thread got me thinking. Do we over dramatize pregnancy?

Eg : Dont lift that box, your pregnant (its a shoebox)

Dont upset her, she's pregnant (but she's being a bitch)

Dont get up, your pregnant (like she's incapable of standing)

Dont get me wrong i know there are pregnancy's that have problems but if the pregnancy is going well do you think people in general tend to over dramatize it?

Also the (i cant do it, i'm pregnant excuse used by many women) over dramatic / sympathy vote in most cases or not?

Hmm.

I think (usually) that it's more a courtesy thing than anything else. I might give up my seat for a pregnant woman (if ten men didn't beat me to it) but I resent certain other things like having special parking places for pregnant women and women go first in line and yada. That ain't right. They aren't sick, they got that way willingly for the most part. I don't know. I like to see men dote on their pregnant women but as a woman myself I'm not going to do it.

I especially don't like pregnant women (or any women really) who act like princesses.

Uh....did I answer the question?

Some do - some don't, depends on the type of person really.

When I was first pregnant I thought I had miscarried and wasn't pregnant any more (turned out it was one of twins and I was still pregnant) so when hubby had to go to pick up a body from the local hospital (he's a funeral director) I went with him, then we went on to the main hospital to have a scan to find out why I was still bleeding - then told I was still pregnant and for the time being no lifting!!!! Ooops!

Lifting a body's a whole lot different from a shoebox Immy, i'd struggle doing that normally. I meant more along the lines of the comments i mentioned. ;)

There are some women who take advantage of their 'condition'. Are they more fragile during this time? Yes. Do they deserve to be treated a little bit more gently? I think so. Are mood swings and whacked hormones reason to grant concessions? Hell yes.

Its a big deal & a big change for your body. They aren't invalids, so they shouldn't be treated as such. However, they are in constantly changing altered state of being. They deserve to be granted at least some concessions. I mean, honestly, they are creating a human being in their bellies from scratch.
The most important things in life are:

laughter, love, and a healthy appreciation for the dark side!

My daughter in law is still working, and her first baby is due in three weeks time. She still loves to shop till she drops (or I do) I think she has the right attitude. My only concern is ,tha will she will be able to cope with a complete change in her life style when the baby is born. She has never been one for staying in one place very long, she likes to be out and about, visiting friends and family.
