Have any of you had any luggage missing? British Airs ways have admitted they are the worse ones and have said they are sorry, but thats all very well but when you have saved up all year for your hoilday it can really be quite heart breaking,:mad:

I'm seriously considering that we would only bring carry-ons in the future.

We've never had anything lost but I do get nervous at the possibilty...:-3

When we went to Alaska earlier this year two of our bags didn't arrive back with us. We flew from Fairbanks to Seattle to Chicago to Heathrow. When the bags didn't turn up at Heathrow I didn't think we'd see them again because of all the changing of planes but the info desk knew exactly where they were (still in Alaska) and two days later a courier brought them to us.

I was glad it was on our return that they got lost though, not the way out.

We recently had a holiday where our bag did not arrive with us. It was not openly advertised, but we found out that if an airline looses your luggage that after 24 hours you are eligible to receive financial compensation per bag lost for each day the bag is missing to cover emergency supplies.

Check with your airline what the agreement is, they will not be to fast to share the information. We received €80. compensation for our bags that were lost for 1.5 days.

That happened to me when I was 18, the whole family flew out to Cyprus and all our luggage had gone astray. We got to our apartment in the middle of the night, I called the airline in the morning but still no news of our luggage, we was advised to go buy some clothes and we would be able to claim on our insurance. Sounds nice and easy, well not for me!!!! I was a size 12 on the bottom but due to my bobbies I needed BIG tops, I walked around a parade of shops and left with 1 pair of bikini bottoms, much to my families disgust and embarrassment I went topless! Our cases arrived 5 days later. It didn't ruin my holiday though, sun, sea, drink on tap how could I complain :D

I'm on the road a lot and this is always a big worry. I've heard some heartrending tales. Touch wood - the only time I've missed a bag was on the short shuttle (40 min flight) between Canberra and Sydney, years ago.

These days lost luggage has another dimension. With the security angle now, and barcoding bags for tracking, bags should not be lost. For instance the rules say that if your bag is on the plane but you aren't, they have to delay takeoff and remove your bag (unless it's properly designated unaccompanied baggage which presumably has extra security checks). And yet more and more luggage is going astray. A real worry.

I have seen ads from a number of firms who - for a fee - will personally convey your bags to wherever you are going and guarantee the service. Sad that's it's come to this.

my god as I get older I swear i have experienced everything...

when I was in my late teens, we had christmas with the grandparents on Vancouver Island one year and we had to take an odd flight home, we hopped from the island to Vancouver had a few hour stop over then flew home to Calgary. Normally this trip straight through is just over an hour long. Ok so.... we got into Calgary only to find one of our bags was snitched (this was back in the early 70's) and sadly what was gone was all my and my brothers chirstmas gifts, my moms gift from her mom which was a loaded photo album as well as our stockings that my mom had handmade. It was devastating. I don't think I will ever forget the sentimental loss.
