It can be kind of fun watching people shift around and be uncomfortable but I hope it doesn't last too long and they get used to the new you. Sounds like you are dealing with it well.

My best friend, who is also my co-worker, is separated from her husband. He left her for another woman. Didn't even give her any warning. Just moved out and left a note. I don't know how many times people ask me, "How is she REALLY?". I tell them the truth. She is REALLY fine.
Now when I see him, the not soon enough to be ex husband, I refuse to acknowledge his existance. I never liked him, and was only nice to him for her sake. When his girlfriend is with him, I make it a point to tell anyone within earshot that I saw his wife today and how much better she looks without the stress of being married to an idiot. :wah:
Anyways, yes, people are probably talking. It's human nature. Your wife's friends probably feel a little uncomfortable seeing you right now. They may feel it's betraying her if they are nice to you. The ones that ask how ARE you doing, are probably truly interested and hope you are okay. It'll get easier with time.

Well, I think you sound as if you did just great - who are they to judge, anyway?! And I`m sure your confidence will grow with time.

Quite a unique experience. The women (my wife's friends) pretty much treated me like the anti-Christ (ok a bit of exaggeration) but I was ignored by more women than you can count - and the husbands all talked to me. People looked at me and ran the other way - or they started by saying "how ARE you doing" ( I heard you were the anti-Christ!
)
All went pretty well - I think I surprised people by being optimistic and not sulking. Oh well - my ears are ringing and I know I am the topic of conversation in more houses tonight than usual.
"tis a bit like being a leper isn't it. I find it is rather difficult to fit in to the "married circle" so you have to take it with a grain of salt for now. I think they will all get used to you in time. Separated and divorced folks make some married folks envious and feel threatened thinking their partner may envy you and that threatens their marriage. Just tell them the truth on how you feel. And if you are happy don't be afraid to tell them. You will be the topic of conversation among your peers for quite awhile I assure you that. But hey what the heck let them talk.
Good to see you getting out.

You should've gone up to each and every one of them and said hi, just to show them up for what they are. Then again, why should you lower yourself? Just rise above it, somebody else will be their gossip next week

Believe it or not... many of the men present at the party are jealous of your new liberation. The women are only taking your wifes testimony into consideration. When the word gets out that your free... and the new news grows old... the same people who gave you the cold shoulder will be sizing you up.. to " FIX you up" with someone single they know. Life is really something!!!!
