Hi filmgoers-

What's the state of filmmaking now? What do I want to watch? Geez when I'm thinking about it, movies seem so pointless. Why do producers drum up support for mediocre movies? Do they have high hopes or something? Maybe their tastes are different from mine. Just seems like there are too many of these movies. I know, I know, this has already been said before. But, what movie should I pay ten dollars to see at the theatre? Tell me. Otherwise I'll not see it, or wait for it out on dvd. Am I being negative? Could be this. Just a little let down by movies that cost so much. Sometimes I watch one that's worth the money. My 11 yo watched Transformers and was absolutely mesmerized. Last movie he liked so much was a few years ago, "The Black Cauldron". I haven't seen either. Kids easier to please?

What contemporary movie would you recommend for a grown woman without means to see all of what's out there? If you had to recommend one only, at this time, what would it be? What's playing in other parts of the world that's not showing in my USA that looks good? Sometimes I'm disappointed by the lack of accesibility of foreign films here in US. Of course I can find some of them. But most foreign films are inconveniently located, online or whatnot. What a drag. I will have to add though that by the time I do find a foreign film here at the local video store it's usually a very good one :). Do you think marketing of these films goes throung some sort of filter system?

Netflex has movie now that can be downloaded and watched on your PC if you have a good screen its cheap and you have a very large selection at your finger tips. They have a free trial now Netflex.com

In my opinion there is nothing at the movies I would pay $10.00 to see. I would go to a afternoon movie and see it cheaper. I just saw the "Bourne Ultimatum" very good for $6.00 at the 1:05pm showing.

Hi Erin,

I often wonder what's up with movies myself. It has to really intrigue me for me to go to the theater and fork out cash. The more hype, the more I'll avoid seeing it. I've never seen Star Wars, in fact. :o

I don't know what's playing currently in theaters but I could give you a list of DVDs I think are good. That may just be my own taste though.

There is a foreign film on DVD called "Shall We Dance?" There are two versions. Get the Asian subtitled version. I'm not into foreign films but even I liked this one.

And the one foreign film I really did love was.....Like Water For Chocolate. Romantic but not stupid.

The best movie to come out in the last couple of years has to be "The Family Stone" with Diane Keaton.

Thanks for the recommendations everyone.

I will see if I can get Shall We Dance at my local video store and I always meant to wtch Like Water For Chocolate. I watched Family Stone as I've always loved Dianne Keaton's acting and she seems to be in good movies. This one was just okay. Could have been better, but the characters were pretty uniquely drawn. The whole movie a had a bit of melodramatics that made it not so real for me. My daughter thought it was the best! Yeah me too never watched any of the Star Wars episode 'cept one that my son dragged me to, and I fell asleep, very long movie if I remember correctly. Just not into all those creatures and the plot.

Bourne Ultimatum, never drawn to action movies like that, was it action? I too go to the matinee, usually the dollar theater. Pretty yucky theater, sticky floors, afraid to put my head back on the seats, lol. Thing is I want to be able to go to the movie theater at night. I think it's a real treat, always have. That's why I'm disappointed with the caliber of flicks offered these days for the price, just not worth it. The other prob I have is living away from the bigger theaters that seem to get the better movies playing. Wanted to see the movie Once but never made it in time. Now it's not playing. Only played at one theater in town (live in population of half a million).

I do like the idea of downloading movies to watch on demand. I've tried paying a monthly fee for movies but when I did I found it not worth it, seems I'm impulse watcher and didn't make the best use of my subscription so I quit it. What I have enjoyed recently is a video distribution box called Red Box at my local grocery store and for one dollar per night I can rent whenever I want. The drawback of course is the limited range of movies offered.

I like to support the movie industry so would like to spend my money at the theater watching something satisfying. My expectations could be too high. Why don't they just lower the prices??

Have a great day!

I torrent every film I watch.

Tonight is Mr Bean's Holiday. I have the yungun with me. ;)

I only download from one person who is in Spain where it's legal so I can justify having no guilt as far as stealing goes.

Currently I have more films on my hardrive than I have time to watch.

Free, the quality is great and if it sucks?

Only my time was wasted.
